If you are removing original details of the house--please put them in an attic or basement storage so a future owner will have the option to restore them.

I think your ideas are good and personally wouldn't worry about saving that scalloped top piece. One thing that might make your job harder is what looks like an electric outlet in the middle of one of the pieces of trim you are removing.

Make sure you turn the breaker off before disassembling the outlet and you may have to remove the outlet box and reinstall it flush with the sheetrock/plaster but its doable.

The curved timber brace details look to be something that would have been installed in a Tudor Cottage. Is the house Tudor in style? Looks like a room from the Cottage of Carmel By The Sea.

Why would you want to strip them away? If they complement the architectural design of the home they should stay. What needs to be removed is that horrible brass glass door. There are minimal screens that can be used with the brick hearth.

No, I actually love that style of home. I also don’t like them on the outside of the home either 🫣

All that fake tudor trin meeds to go inside and out. Is that a gas FP? Do you have lovely things that need display on those shelves ? I need to know more about your style . A raised ranch can go in many directions style wise. I see you are going to rent this house out so aimple id best remove the trim apint the shelves and leave the mantel. Paint the walls a nice neutral and make sure you have that FP checked to make sure all is in good working order.

Thank you!! Sorry this is the first time using this app. I appreciate the feedback. For the time being I want to keep the shelves. They are quite textured so I plan on sanding them and painting them. Adding books and some other simple decor. Definitely removing all of the trim. Im slowly learning my style as this is my first home. I like simple, clean, not so sleek and modern / cold feeling. What color scheme do you think would be good on the outside? Thanks again!!

It is a gas fire place and it works! We got that checked out which is the one thing we crossed off the list so far :)

Here's an example with everything painted white and the bottom half covered with 6" tiles with a new Fireplace Glass Door. The facing around the fireplace depends on what you are planning for the rest of the room.
