Has anyone installed Karastan laminate in Linen Wash Oak color?

We have not installed it...yet. We just picked this product and exact color yesterday for our new build. The local, family owned flooring store had it installed in their store entryway so we got a good feel for how it looks installed. The salesman also mentioned that the owners had just installed the same floor in their own home. Luckily one of the owners showed up while we were there and she happily shared the pics from her own home, it was beautiful! I can't say how the product holds up since it's so new but it does look gorgeous when installed. Ive attached photos from the store but the color is definetly darker in the photos than in person. I should mention that this store is in Rexburg, ID where we get plenty of weather. People come in and kick off the snow from their boots.

We needed a flooring to go over a radiant heat system, that was scratch resistant from our dogs and water resistant. We had originally picked a CoreTec product but found out later that they require a pretty thick underlayment that our builder felt was going to inhibit the heat from the floor.

Jennifer, thank you so much for all of the info and the photos! This helped me so much! The store we found this product in ( also in Idaho :) ) had the same product line in a different color installed in their entry. We loved it but it was a little darker than we wanted. The Linen Wash Oak was the lighter version and looked beautiful on the sample board but it helps so much to see it actually installed in a larger scale. We love the long wide planks and the pillow edge. It gives it such a natural look. I wish you all the best in your new build! Thanks again!

We are installing Karastan Belhancourt Linen Wash Oak too, what color paint did you emd up going with? thanks!

I just went with your standard Swiss Coffee. There are too many overwhelming choices to make when building a new home and figured I could always repaint if I picked the "wrong" color. We also have wood on our ceiling, black base cabinets, oak uppers, and black windows. Our flooring installation starts on Monday, hopefully I can post some good pics of the Linen wash oak then.

Amber the floor looks so beautiful 😍 thank you for posting. Our flooring was delivered on Friday and they’ll start laying it tomorrow! Just out of curiosity did you guys have any transitions from the karastan to tile anywhere?

  • last year

Yes, we did have some transitions. There is a transition piece that matches the Karastan between the laminate and the tile and carpet rooms. It looks very nIce. I will try to post some photos soon.

We have about half of the floor down and we love it! I think it looks amazing in person, it‘s hard to capture the beauty in photos. We couldn’t be happier with our choice. Hopefully it’s as durable as they say it is 🤞🏽

Did they put a transition strip in front of the sliding glass doors?

  • last year

They left the transition strips for our builder to install. I think they left them off because we have a radiant floor underneath and our builder wanted to make sure the flooring did ok once the plumber fired up the boiler for the floors. The floors are all covered up right now because the painters are in but I imagine those strips will go on in the next week or so.

I know this is old but do you still like these? When I rub my hands across the sample it

    feels like sand paper.

I love this flooring even more after living with it for a couple of months! It hasn’t showed one scratch from our 35 lb puppy and it cleans up beautifully! I’ve never once thought it felt like sand paper, are you sure your sample is the same flooring referenced in this thread? It’s definitely not smooth but definitely not rough like sand paper.

Just curious for those who have already installed the Karastan Linen washed oak color laminate - how is it holding up? We ordered and waiting for delivery. Hoping like others said that it is as durable as we have heard from the flooring store. Thanks in advance and love the pictures! The sample I got from Karastan looks different than the board at the flooring store and the sample area my store has on their floor.

We have lived with ours for about 9 months. The floor has held up really well to our rambunctious 1-year-old puppy, which was our biggest concern. Our last home had real wood floors that made it look like we had a pack of wild dogs living in our house. I have noticed 2 small nicks in the top layer of the flooring. One was made by a heavy wooden dog kennel that had something sticking out of it, but I'm not sure what caused the other one. It's under our dining room table, but I couldn't find anywhere where a chair or the table could have caused it. Maybe someone dropped something??

We have 2 large sliders, and our installer put in the quarter-inch round transitions in front of the doors. It was less than 3 months before we started to notice that the top layer was peeling off. It looks cheap, and I would not install it again. Fortunately, they left a different transition (a flat, low-profile piece) that we intend on switching out this summer. Sorry, the coloring looks way off in the pics. We are still happy with the floors and would choose them again. Good luck!

Are there any green undertones to this floor?

How is this flooring holding up for those that picked it? I have to make a decision ASAP! TIA!

To Jennifer Minson, are your upper cabinets white oak and or what colour stain are they?

Yes, Cathy, our uppers are white oak with a natural stain.
