We are in store for warmer temps at last, along with big rain “events” but at least it will melt the snow and ice. Local schools are out for a sixth day today. While we Southerners are often the butt of the ”milk and bread runs” and ”can’t drive in snow” jokes, the truth is we (nor most people) can’t drive on ice!! And ice is what we usually get as a prelude to snow. And yes, I am totally out of milk and bread!!! :)

Oh no Kate, deer again so early. Journey of Magic does look lovely, lives up to its name.

Debra, Jean Deaver’s Dream is a gorgeous purple bloom. Have you used it for hybridizing?

Sherry - Jeanne Deaver's Dream blooms so late (ML here) that I'm rarely able get seeds from it because the temps are so hot here. It won't set pods, and the few seeds I've gotten with its pollen usually develop mold or do not germinate. Your Joan Derifield is so much lighter than mine. I don't remember seeing pics of it in your garden before.

Kate - I need groceries too. I'm hoping most of the ice will melt off the streets this afternoon. Nashville only plows the main arterial roads, and side streets don't get any snow/ice removal. I like your photos of J.P. Moneybags and Journey of Magic!

Same here Debra. Since I live outside of town, no roads are plowed. Our hills make it even more treacherous. I have cooked more this week than ….well I can’t remember!! I just received an email from one of my schools that they will be closed again tomorrow. We are going to be so up against deadlines when we return!

I am rationing cat food for both my babies and the feral cats I feed. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Wow, you sure have a deer plague Kate. Debra, I love the color of Jeanne Deaver's Dream.

Debra, my Joan D. has languished here. I had alot of blooms that were pale this past season, Joan D. included. It should do better than it does considering its placement here. It is also more difficult for me to reach to get a good photo, soooo not many photos of it ever.

Freezing rain is predicted for this evening here. I hope it doesn't get too bad. The ice won't last long as temps are supposed to warm up a bit.

I like Jack Sprat. Joylene Nichole is a very pretty pink.

I don't have many J's to post. This is Je Suis Charlie. It needs to be moved since it gets buried in weeds.

Jeepers Creepers is a nice patterned one.

JJ It is Mine bloomed for the first time last season (planted in late May in 2022). It was impressive.

Brad and Sherry: Since I love pink dips, Jolyene Nichole is my favorite. Nancy: I like Jeepers Creepers and I like Kate's JP Moneybags. Debra: Your Jitterbug Blues looks interesting.

JELLYROLL MORTON: Rebloomed for me this past summer. The color holds well. Relatively new. Hoping that it reaches its registered height.

JELLY MAKER: Relatively new. Too new to comment.

JUBILEE BALL: A Bennett intro and taller than most. I love how the blooms face outward.

JERRY HYATT in the morning.

JERRY HYATT in the afternoon. Good garden plant.

JOAN DERIFIELD: Another good Hanson intro. This was in the morning before work. Blooms still openning up.

JAZZ ME BLUES: Another Bennett intro. Seems to really get going after three years of being undisturbed.

JACK BE NIMBLE: This one is an attention getter. Tall scapes, increases well, many buds. I like the faint reddish eye. Blooms are on the large size. I moved the entire clump from the front bed and it acted like it was never moved.

JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS: A gorgeous light pink. I love this plant.

JAMAICAN MIDNIGHT: An older Salter that is rather velvety looking in the a.m.

Nan - I like all three of yours. Jeepers Creepers does have a terrific pattern!

David - Your photo of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is so pretty! I like all of Frank Smith's pinks.

Mantis - Judy's Jewel has a wonderful flower but has not performed well here over the years. It's not a good multiplier and has always been short. Those seedlings I have with it crossed with Bubblegum Queen are much better in terms of height, bud count and multiplying. Jackie Canner is my favorite of yours. It does look richly colored. The one you have labeled as Jennifer Trimmer is really Jane Trimmer, I think. I have Jane Trimmer and it has been a terrible performer here. The petal color is never lavender and it's always very short.

Yes, Jane. Jennifer did not do well here. To me, "terrible performer" often includes few buds, blooming consistently beneath the foliage, and not multiplying well. Jane fits none of those criteria. She is out of Sabine Baur and has much the same growth habit, which is indeed short. Some pictures of Jane show more of a beige/pink coloration, but earlier in the morning on most days, the base color is indeed a pale lavender here and the eye dark purple. She photographs much like parent Gillian, where hues (and camera interpretation) change later to a more beige/pink base. Among Jane's progeny are Alpha and Omega and Sea of Glass (seedlings), Crazy Ivan, and Ledgewood's Jump Start (not good here). In short, nothing to write home about, but has a place in the front row.

Mantis - Your definition of "terrible performer" fits Jane to a tee here. It's getting trashed this Spring.

Mantis, I love Joy Came Down. Good form and color. Same for Jackie Canner. I also like Jan Zoo.

Mantis and David, Jelly Roll Morton is always appealing.

David, Jazz Me Blues is a beauty, great color and form. Love the velvety look of Jamaican Midnight.

Nancy, Je Suis Charlie is very pretty.
