Take a look at the contact at the bottom of the socket. If it can be bent out a bit, it might help to hold the bulb tighter. LED bulbs really don't get very hot. I'd turn it on for awhile and touch the bulb to check its temperature. Foil tape (e.g., foil duct tape) would stand the heat but you have to buy so much...perhaps you have some lying around. Twenty-five dollars per bulb? What's the bulb type (e.g., A19, BR30) and wattage?

Hi, thanks for your comments. We've been using a GE floodlight, outdoor rated, par 38 medium base, 32 watts.

I didn't find a GE bulb with those specs, just this one for $15 at Target. But this Feit PAR38DM/1400/930CA is $8 at Home Depot. Of course, any outdoor lighting should follow Dark Sky principles:

If it's LED, hopefully it would have survived a fall, so not sure if you are just trying 3 different 'bulbs' in thinking they were manufacturing defects. It could be the 'bulb' is an E26, and maybe the fixture is an E27 base, that catches a lot people when they buy fixtures from Amazon. Whatever the reason, I would try a tiny dab of silicone caulk on the base. I don't think that would hold against the torque of unscrewing it in the future.

Both the GE and Feit bulbs have E26 bases. All the barn lights checked on Home Depot had E26 bases. The caulk idea seems like a good one.

Thanks for your advice. I contacted the place we bought the light and was told any LED bulb with a medium base will work. The light is about two stories up above the door used for an elevator so the bulbs were damaged with the fall onto the stone barnyard drive. I may try the caulk suggestion.
