Have you got furniture for the basement already and if so, what colour(s) are the pieces you have.

I see some nice dark floors, does that run throughout the space?

Is there a fireplace or any other permanent structure that might be dictating a colour palette for the space?

You should post pictures of the entire space including any furniture you are planning to use.

Benjamin Moore has an article on warm and cool colours and how to choose including suggestions for colours. Then you can also dig a little deeper on those colours to find coordinating colours that can be used for cushions on a couch, curtains, art choices etc.

Some of those colours you are showing are leaning towards pink/mauvey tones - is that what you're looking for?

Taupes can be a bit on the difficult side. Some look a little muddy and some end up quite red/pink/mauve depending on light and surroundings. Sample, sample, sample to find what looks best.

Maybe some greens would work. You've obviously picked up some samples but maybe expand your colour choices a bit to see what works well in your space and with your furniture and surroundings.

If you go to a proper paint store (I favour Benjamin Moore but Sherwin Williams is also v good) - not a big box store, ask the people there for guidance and suggestions. I've had fantastic guidance from BM employees over the years.

I think they are all too dark for a basement. are you keeping the trim white?

Look at them at night and in low light... Try SW Alabaster

Yes we are keeping the white/semi white trim. I don't want a light bright basement. Its a man cave and thats the look Im going for.

@ mvcanada Our sofa is a light tan with blue and gray pillows. No other furniture in the living room except a tv stand almost same color as floors. Just looking for a nice warm wall color. No I am not wanting a pink undertone. Not too light as we found a LRV of 70 is too light such as city loft by SW. Just would love a light taupe but not something blahh. As you can see agreeable grey is blah.

Ok, so now you've said "Man Cave" that makes me think of darker, moodier colours.

What do you think of BM Sparrow - AF 720.

Might work with the colours of you couch and cushions. Well definitely work with the floors.

If your husband is anything like mine, he likes a nice throw on the couch and he lies down to watch sports etc and likes the blankey - so that is a chance to bring in some lighter contrasting colours to brighten the space a bit more.

Color in a basement only works if there is good lighting. Our choice was an off-white using brightly colored art and bright colors to separate various functional areas within a Great Room concept. All lights, canisters, sconces and pendants are on dimmers

mvcanada sparrow is too dark. i do know we need an LRV between 52 and 62. Himalayan Trek looks very nice on the screen and online. Do you know the undertones in this?

@kwbrownsugar - Sorry, unable to provide specifics. We sold the home last spring. The off-white is a stock SW White. Other colors were custom color matched using the rug in front of the fireplace as the guide.

How about SW Modern Gray?

IMO even man caves need to be cleaned so good lighting you can control is a must and then you can go darker for the walls LRV are IMO useless try the color on a poster board move it around all over the palce and see how it looks in your space with your stuff. IMO still the only way to choose wall color. It is also very confusing when 2 people are posting on the same dilemma. Most of the colors you show have very pink undertones not at all how I think of a man cave . It hink maybe a taupe but you need to trest drive not on the wall but on poster board to be able to how it works everywhere.
