If you stand right next to the windows and look closely between the glass panes, then yes, you do see the black "weatherstripping". You can see silver and black. My windows are bronze on the outside and painted white on the inside. If you start looking at someone's face closely enough, you start to notice their pores!

I never noticed the "black banding" and only took a close look because of your post. Stand back and look at the view through your windows.

The only issue I see sometimes when looking out of my windows ... is the crazy neighbor!

From your description what you are seeing is the spacer between the glass lites. This spacer comes in several different colors, including black, but the "natural" color is silver.

The spacer is stainless steel and generally comes in the base silver while different colors are options that usually have to be specifically requested when ordering windows.

Black spacer is fairly common and even preferred by some folks because they think that it's less noticeable than the more metallic silver of the original. I am not sure if black might be the standard for Marvin or not, but black does seem to be not uncommon in Marvin windows, possibly more common than other brands that use the same system, but that's just a guess not based on any actual measured data.

Ask your contractor why you have a black spacer when in the showroom you were shown silver and see what he has to say about it.

You do have a black spacer system that was installed into the window sash using a black adhesive sealant.

Once again share your concerns with your contractor. Personally I think that the application of the sealant could have been cleaner and should be addressed if you aren't happy with the result.

Mine are casements, but that shouldn't make a difference.

My banding is thin crisp lines and no goopy corners and I definitely don't have that thick line when looking at them from outside.

Have your contractor help you look at all the windows to see if all of them are like this or just a few.

Why are you nervous? You need to stop the installation if you aren't happy. Grab a window on Monday and take it to the Marvin Showroom to compare side by side. Maybe your contractor can also meet you there.

Your house, your decisions. If getting finished is more important, then accept what you got, but will you be annoyed you did nothing when looking out those windows for the next 20 years?

^^ usually they have identification all over them - were any identifying stickers removed before you saw them?

Also the labels never get removed right away, just in case they discover a problem with the window and they need to contact the manufacturer about a repair/replacement or someone breaks a window during the rest of the project.

The window stickers in my new construction were on the windows for 7 months until the cleaning crew cleaned them up about a month before we moved in.

Yes all stickers are on them, so maybe I can call Marvin direct ?

Black spacer and sealant, do you have a copy of the order? There is a spot on the order form for choosing, black, bronze or mill from what I know.

Get a copy of the order form from your contractor. Or first go to the showroom and go over the order process with a salesperson. Get a sample order form. If it shows a choice for the spacer, you will know what to look for when you ask your contractor about his order. Sounds like an error was made.

Once you find out what happened, you can discuss your options with Marvin Tech Support. If there's a cost involved, you can explain that to your contractor if he made the error.

Now is your chance get ride of thos CRAP !!! Marvin product and warranty is trash.
