Can you also post a pic standing where your TV is looking back towards the kitchen so we get a feel for how the hole space is connected?

This is the best one I have for now, standing at the entrance to the family room- can try to take a better one tomorrow- this is my unrenovated kitchen!. Can try to take better pics in AM!

Is there a plan to put recessed lights in the cooking area? Or are you keeping the two chandelier format?

Your furniture, rug, and window coverings do not match and are in grays and browns instead of a unifying color scheme. That should take precedence over matching light shades. Least expensive fix would be to get a plain flatweave beige carpet perhaps jute or wool or cotton to replace the busy gray one, and replace the too-small gray loveseats.

Any room that has high ceilings..it is good to choose a fan / light combo…in the winter they blow the warm air downward..in the summer it creates a little breeze on cooler days and even in the mornings…to put off using the AC too early in the day..it is worth investing in a pretty one that complements your decor

Yes, I think it is fine, even nice, to have nickel in the kitchen and brass in the family room. Although they are open to each other they read as two different spaces. Love your brass chandelier. Your kitchen is already lovely and the renovation sounds great too.

Hi Dena, as a designer, I can tell it won't look silly.

You have the chandelier and the wall sconces in brass.

It looks silly when we mix metals and one of them is "alone", without any link to other pieces. If you had only brushed nickel all over the place and then a chandelier in brass, that wouldn't be balanced. I don't suggest mixing more then 2 metal finishes either... I hope this helps!

Btydrvn- we actually had a fan there and we never used it, so after 6 years- we replaced it with this chandelier lol- so it is staying! Thank you for the feedback though !
