So, your range is enclosed snuggly, by walls on three sides? I know that wouldn’t pass code where I live.

I shiver to think how this works at all without burning down the house . Maybe post a pic with the range in place . I woudl for sure tile all the walls around the range not just behind it.

This is an electric freestanding range. Notice the plug. It is not a gas range.

Notice what the specs on this typical freestanding electric range say. This is directly from their specs.

1" minimum to wall on either side of range above cooktop height. It says nothing about fireproof surfaces or anything else.

Also note that most local code requirement state that you follow the clearance requirements as set by the manufacturer's specifications for installation.

Please just quit telling everyone under every situation where they don't have 25 feet on each side of their cooktop that they are going to burn their house down. It's non-productive, alarmist and frequently incorrect.

Agree that a stainless steel panel would look nice behind the range - bonus its inexpensive and easy to DIY

To answer the original question, I would probably do the stainless back and side splashes as Beverly suggests. Your range appears to have the back guard, so keeping the sidewalls clean will probably be more of a challenge than the back.

The stainless wall is cheap, easy and inexpensive. Ask yourself if you want to look at it everyday though. Tiling that area can be done fairly cheap, especially if you are able to get tile on sale. Plan for at least 15% extra. Inspect all boxes to make sure you don’t have broken tile. Pre plan t where you want the tile. You will be happier looking at what you want then what is cheapest.
