can you take the fireplace wall up to ceiling and cover the side niche?

I am assuming a TV.

If he could do this, it would be better.

What needs to happen is a rip of the entire thing, because it is not good, was not necessary.

I assume the electrical I see is for a tv? Why any open space above?

It's quite awful, show the entire room, the plan for the room, the entirety of the space, and your furniture plan ?

Nothing just "ends up" somewhere it wasn't supposed to be. Was there a drawing, instructions to any and all involved?

What was the driving force behind the fireplace wall as it exists now? Was there any reasoning behind it?

Why is the box clinging to an edge of a wall that abruptly ends?

I have no clue as to the plan for this at all Why the opening behind this ? Where is this in the whole space ? This is a mess and at least no textured walls ever and the texture on that area is horrible . I need context and a reason for this plan. We nned to see the floor plan of the whole space so do a to scale plan on graph paper show all windows doorways where those lead that weird FP wall and all meausurements clearly marked post here in jpeg format in a comment DO NOT start another post. In your idea books you have a couple of nice FP walls why did you not do one of those ?Waht do you mean by 3 sided ?

If the builder won't make changes, make sure you have extra floor tile in case you want to reconfigure this wall on your own down the road.

A "three sided fire" would be one allowing a view of the fire on three sides. This is NOT that, or the wall is covering some glass, and your fire box specs were lost in construction debris by an idiot, along with your instructions.

Which probably means codes not met, either.

If the three dimensional shape of the firebox has to stay, I would not emphasize it by any other materials. But it needs to be a whole shape, not something cut off an the knees:

It's probably like this one. A shallow projecting glassed in firebox.

It just needs to go all the way up to the ceiling, not have the projection chopped off right on top of it. This is not meant to have a traditional mantle shelf.

I don't think you need to worry about symmetry with a contemporary fireplace

Palempsest- That’s probably it. But it may not fit an 85” TV that I have in mind. What are your thoughts on continue with the fireplace box to be flush with both side of the wall.

Jan- I don’t have Windows on that wall.
