I'd just plant shrubs. Make it look like you're doing some landscaping. In my experience, if a fox or other creature gets into trash and spreads it all over the area, the person who failed to secure their trash can rarely picks it up.

You should have home owner's insurance that covers people falling on your property. You should have enough coverage that you don't have to worry much about this.
