In search for siding design ideas

Hello.

We are renovating our first floor and making some modifications to the rear of our house. We are adding a roof over the patio (chimney area) and a small overhang for a new grill area off of the kitchen (see architectural rear elevation drawing).

I'm looking for more creative ideas for the siding (hardie board). I've always hated the large amount of horizontal siding and this renovation will give us the opportunity to change it. The entire hardie board of the middle 2 story section will be coming down due to some window/door changes. Should I do some board and baton somewhere on this wall or other parts of the rear of house? Add a secondary color? I'm struggling!

Side Note: we are also replacing all of the windows. So we have the opportunity to go black windows. Should we or keep the classic white windows?

I would keep the classic white windows - the stone is staying? If so, I don't see the need to add other elements to the house

My only comment was to suggest that removing the arched transoms and oval window would help the facade but I can see you are doing that! I think black windows with white siding is going to be the next granite with stainless steel appliances- nice but overdone. White windows with your traditional house will always look good as would some version of putty. I do think all white is a bit bland. I would probably stick with white windows and trim and find a subtle putty for the siding…

I agree with @Hallett & Co all the way around. Black windows would be "ok", but your home looks more a white window type home to me.

Looks like both BeverlyFLADeziner and Hallet both like the idea of putty siding with white windows. I'm in agreement, the white house with black windows trend is a little too strong for me to jump on at this time of the trend :).

Thanks for including a few photos, one nice detail I'm seeing (and haven't considered) is darker downspots and darker gutters.
