How pleasant is that? So charming, I can see why you are enjoying it. Too many AirBnbs are now corporate and have all the design appeal of a Hyatt. But when you find one like this, it reminds me of why AirBnb is always the first place i look when I plan a trip.

Next door is a liquor store. IME this is the type of thing you need to look out for, that is not usually apparent in the listing. If it matters, you can usually figure out the exact location (or ask for it) and "walk it" on google maps. Sometimes there are specific things that would dramatically impact the value to someone living there, but that don't matter as much in an AirBnb.

We stayed at an AirBnb in Crakow that was uber charming and very on trend. When we arrived and entered the stairwell, I nearly turned on my heel and left. I might have but it was NYE weekend and i had 5 people and 17 pieces of luggage. The "lobby" and grand old stairs looked like an abandoned place where bad guys might hold out in a war movie. The apartment itself? Large, gorgeous and spotless. It was in old town, but our block had ugly soviet-era buildings; you had to walk a block or two for the cutesy part. The state of the common areas and the particular micro-level architecture in just that block are not really relevant to AirBnb tenants, but i am sure they would impact the rental value for traditional tenants. I think AirBnb often arbitrages this type of situation.

why renovate so nicely just to rent out?

I'd imagine the real estate is soooo cheap that it works out, particularly if the landlord is opportunistic about materials, can do their own labor, and thrift some of the decor. Not great opp's in this area of the country, either, looking at incomes vs US.

The house is darling! Not sure I would be happy with the location.

Oooh, what a beautiful place! I know nothing about Lafayette, but I'd be tempted to go there just to stay in such a sweet rental! I've always thought it would be so much fun to decorate a short term rental (not so much fun to be in the rental business though) so I kind of get why someone might beautifully renovate an Airbnb.

FTR I had googled the location ahead of time and knew it was next to a liquor store. Not a lot of other options anyway, but I wasn’t too worried. The neighborhood was very very quiet last night!

It wouldn’t really bother me either as an Airbnb rental… But it would bother me if I were living there. So i imagine the home sold at a discount for that reason, but it didnt impact the Airbnb rate nearly as much if at all.

Such a nice home! Whoever remodeled did a great job. The kitchen, bathrooms are so well done. My dear nephew was born there - his parents had a short stay in Lafayette so I never got to visit.

We actually stayed i this one, featured in a 3/23 article, but it was 2017 or 2018 IIRC. It was a bit rougher around the edges than this photo, but we loved it, and it was just across from a canal in a charming neighborhood ... tho a metro or Uber ride the central sights.

We're hotly looking to buy our next rental property. Spent today driving around, made an offer last Friday, didn't get it. We do ALL of our own work, so ...for instance...the patterned floor tile...saw boxes of it at The Habitat Restore...the whole floor would have cost $25. Then I'd splurge on a cute vanity.
