That is probably fine for a chandelier size. Is your house traditional style or pre-war? Ceiling medallions aren't seen very often anymore. Can you show us a picture of the room?

Why would you want a ceiling medallion?????

I would only consider a medallion over a round table.

Consider an oblong chandelier over a rectangular table.

Thank you beeboo22. Your suggestion is a popular one and appreciated. However, this gets confusing, because using the formula based on the width of my dining room table, 45 inches, a 33 inch diameter chandelier will work. When using that formula, the medallion may be too small.

The next paragraph in that link I sent may help “Just make sure your medallion is the calculated size or LARGER. When in doubt, go bigger. It’s basically a fool proof way to ensure the scale of the ceiling medallion is cohesive with the room size. You wouldn’t want to install a giant medallion in a tiny powder room, nor would you want to install an itsy bitsy medallion in a giant family room.”

I love ceiling medallions and think they add a lot to my 1940s house which doesn’t have a lot of architectural character. I recently went through this same dilemma. I have a ceiling fan in our living room so went with an 18in medallion. Our dining room is smaller in size, with a 36x60 table and 26in chandelier. I got a 22 inch medallion for that room because I wanted it more dramatic. I don’t have them installed yet or I’d share pictures.

I made these choices based on guidelines but also just what feels right for the space.

IMO we have no idea what your style is and why on earth do you want a medallion it only accents the fact the ceiling is low and the chandelier is round over a rectangular table so post some pics ot your space . Formulas for size of light aere really just a guidline often the style fo the light can totally ignore the formul.
