Do a Google image search using words “silk taffeta cream ivory striped fabric.”

There are many sources for by the yard fabric online. And, yes. Custom made is your best bet.

Maybe what you are seeing as "nice" has more to do with the finished product all sewn, hung and dressed in the window. as opposed to just the fabric all by itself. That does look pretty darned close. The custom made ones in the photo might have been made with both an interlining and, of course, a lining and they may appear to have qualities that you are not seeing in a photo of the fabric. You think, maybe?

Are you trying to find the fabic to sew them yourself, or to be made for you?

You are looking at a custom dining room, with custom made drapery from a custom workroom. Also perfectly installed, appropriately proportioned to the window.

If you want silk? You need to consider the widths of your window and your budget.

Why? To get the look, you need extra width and of course lining. Silk, even silk taffeta, pleats up quite narrowly - it has no bulk.

Another point:

The marketplace in recent years has focused on sheers......linen. A silk search, I can tell you from experience used to be a lot easier. Now? It is a deep dive.

However, there are loads of faux silk, and many are quite nice. The same is true of linen - consider blends and even polyesters. Here below? NOT real linen. A beautiful linen /poly that has gorgeous hang, courtesy of beautiful construction and custom work and installation all. : )

Jan, always a wise comment, in my opinion! You are right, I think, that the thin silk fabric has no body and those are professionally finished and hung, all ready for their photo shoot. Without an interlining of , probably, some manner of flannel like fabric, they would not have enough substance to do that with.

OP, does it really have to be real silk? Sure that it will easier to find a silky suitable fabric. What does it matter if you are not going to be wearing it? No one is ever going to know or care that it might not be real silk. And, you may have better performance from some other fiber.

Also keep in mind that there are many types of silk weaves with varying textures and strengths. Charmeuse, dupioni, taffeta, chiffon, crepe de chine, georgette, organza, shantung, brocade, raw, velvet. And then there are the blends, with wool, cotton, linen, etc. The heavier silks will usually drape better than the lighter ones. And of course, ALL silk needs to be at least lined, at best interlined to hang well and protect from sun damage.

It's really not possible to tell from the photo exactly what silk was used. If you're using a custom workroom, show them the photo and tell them what you like about the curtains and they can direct you to the best fabric for your purposes.

YES! Great window treatments really make or break a room. It's worth the investment to get the best. Do it once and forget about it, it's not something you change every few months or even every few years.

Half price drapes used to have taffeta silk ones, not now.

If you're having the curtains custom made, your fabricator likely has accounts at all the fabric houses. Or go to a local discount retail store. They usually have good quality at low prices.

Could be...anything. In selecting fabrics you need to see and feel them in person. Those photos don't say a lot at all.

Silk gets sun-damaged easily, BTW.

Underlining and lining is why generally "I don't do windows." Been there and done that, and they did look nice, but I wouldn't do it again in the foreseeable future.
