I always get inspired by the Hosta alphabet! And I think with my new, targeted watering that I’ll be able to support some more of them. Crossing my fingers, I’m right about that!

I’ve ordered from Hornbaker, Sebright, and New Hampshire Hostas.

    Brentwood Blues

    Broadway

    Cream Topping

Dinner Mint – I was very impressed with so many of your photos of this one!

    Grand Prize

    Hampshire County

    Hotshot

    Love Story

    May

    Ooh La La

    Pin-up

    Wildest Dreams

    Wrinkle in Time

And I forgot Midnight Oil, which started me on my search for new hostas!

Great choices! I have added a few more:
    Valley’s Rodeo
White Feather, inspired by the two people who had it, but I can’t find the pics now….laurie and ????
    LS Cupcake
    Voices in the Wind
White Bikini, inspired by Ben and mbug
White Christmas, inspired by old_dirt ( even if you’ve given up on it) and Gary

I also bought from Hornbakers (my fav) and NH Hostas; also the Hosta Store and Mason Hollow.

After really slowing down last year, the Hosta alphabet inspired me to get busy this year, so i ordered a few from In the Country:

Peach Brandy - going to get it in some sun to catch that color.

Quick Sand - love Doug's Hosta

Valley's Love Birds - I had V. Love Buzz on my list, but so many ruffled blue Hosta out now.

    (and 3 other perennials).

and a few from Pine Forest Gardens where I found:

Light the Match - Love Doug's (different Doug) Hosta

Love Story - looks like a cutie

Reid all About It - Another Doug and have to get at least 3 to make shipping worth it.

So proud of myself, for keeping it in check. Then the Library effect kicked in and I remember lusting after Riviera Sunset for years and found it at Uniquely Hosta so just added whatever looked good and . . .

Champagne Toast - DB and a fav white center from Hosta World

    Golden Goal - DB

Riviera Sunset - the one that started this haul

Starboard Light - past year's cart leftovers

The Shining - ooh, a shiny gold, yes please

Tootie Mae - may be slow, so better get it started now

    Victory Lap - another DB

    Wow . . . now 13 . . . well, that's not too bad . . . that's a good place to stop . . . Did I mention I am an addict? And there's some cheapies over at New Garden Plants, 4 more Hosta and 3 more perennials.

I wish that was the end (sort of) but no. I forget why I started looking at New Hampshire Hosta or if I even ended up with what brought me there, especially since I already had a list going for Northern Grown Perennials . . .

    Monkey Business - thanks UTOG

Roseann Walters - I love those tri or quad colored Hosta

When I Dream - I think of all the Hosta that need a home in the world . . . my home.

    Fire Dance

and a couple liners - Silver Bullet and Wind Beneath My Wings (what happened to Wild Imagination . . . I, uh, guess I wanted to get a bigger one)

    To be continued . . .

What a great variety of hostas we are finding. I hope we will all post photos when our orders come in, so we can see and compare what the different nurseries are sending out.

Steve, well that’s some haul this year! I also ordered Valleys Love Birds……looking for V Chute the Chute, but couldn’t find it. Also ordered V Rodeo, white Feather and LS Cupcake. I too was looking for Riviera Sunset and couldn’t find it. So now thanks to you, I will order it from Uniquely Hostas. They are here in WI. I once visited the site. So I suppose this means a few more hostas to make the shipping cost bearable.

I like reading the comments of the big collectors to see how it’s done..🙂

Haha Ann, not sure I’m a big collector! But because Steve found Riviera Sunset also one I wanted, I ordered that. Then went on to find Valleys Chute to Chute at Uniquely Hostas which I also had been wanting. Then decided to buy Sun Mouse and Stained Glass. I had one years ago but the tree roots got to it I think and it’s gone.

Haha Debra, you have done your share of enabling. i noticed we both have the Love Birds coming our way. Cup of Grace has been on my list and in my cart several times, but just can't seem to pull the trigger on it. As you'll see later, I also ordered Broadway. Glad you got Riviera Sunset. It'll be like watching our kids grow up together, lol. I was going to mention Chute the Chute, but looks like you already found it.

Now for the embarrassing part. I got sucked in by the Rare Hosta Release Party - Hurry, only one left... and snagged Miss Christa before doing my research and finding it $20 less somewhere else. Well, hopefully, it will be bigger than the cheaper one. And she needed a couple body guards so Shadow Seeker (didn't I have this in my NH Hosta cart for $5 less???) and Chris' Tropical Sundown are accompanying her. So many of Christina Brinkmann's Hosta appeal to me and I've been looking for the best upright yellow with dark red petioles. (Watcha got cookin' Hosta_maker?).

Well, if Mason Hollow has Miss Christa for less maybe I'll throw that in my cart and reduce my average price for two of them and see what else they have. Well, after having $250+ of Hosta in my cart, I managed to winnow it down to these 4:

Broadway (See Debra) - I'm a sucker for that wide, flamed border especially when it creates 3rd or 4th colors in the leaf

Happy Hour - Have I mentioned those multi-variegated patterns before??

Kempen Banana Peel - Haven't seen this one before . . . upright, ruffles, subtle variegation - winner!

Superfecta - Talk about a winner. Upright, ruffles and that white center variegation with extra colors that streak into the blue outer leaf and one from Dan Wols - I think I saw him posting it here before it was named.

I think I'm most excited about Happy Hour (m), Superfecta (m-l) and When I Dream (G) with their similar leaf shape/pattern but different sizes. Oh and Love Story too. Almost forgot about that one I ordered it so long ago. Hmm, maybe I could make a bed with these and the round leaved Simply Sharon and Dream Queen and . . .

Well that's it for me this year . . . except for that list at Northern Grown Perennials . . . hmm, i get paid next week . . .

Thanks for the therapy and there will be pictures.

to everyone..I think I know the answer to this question..when you order new hosta do you know where you’re going to plant them?..my guess is no 😂..
that’s what I do..I buy then decide Lol..

I would say both. Sometimes I see something so gorgeous that i just buy. Other times, I say ’you know, I need a big blue hosta right there’ and go shopping for that. I’m an equal opportunity offender.

I've done both. This year I'm planning on yanking out the poor performers and letting them sit in a pot.

I order and then have fun looking at my garden photos, and deciding ahead of time where I want to plant them. Although, that doesn’t always work out, and I change it at the last minute when I'm walking around looking for the best spot.

Sometimes, I am looking for specific hosta characteristics, like sun tolerant the last few years due to big shade tree loss…. And I know kind of where I’m going to put them. However, when I am shopping, most of the I don’t know where I am going to put them.

After I order, I tend to write the hosta size and sun/shade conditions next to its name on the list…..in the spring I mark my planting spots with up side down pots and labels. This year, like Steve, I may be digging up ones not doing too well for pots…..we’ll see how things come up.

Does that answer your question, Ann? 😂😂

I love all of your honest thoughts 🥰..it’s what I thought you might say..sometimes there’s a spot with a certain hosta in mind..but I get the feeling that a lot of the time it’s “sit it there..stare at it..and then decide”..😂
