go buy a shovel.. dig a bed.. and plant some plants.. and learn how to do it yourself.. we can help ...

if you succeed and it makes you happy.. then in fall.. dig a second bed... etc.. ad nauseam...

there are forums for trees.. shrub.. perennials.. and annuals... as well as hosta... roses.. daylilly.. etc ... most all those are still active.. in summer ...

i would start your quest at the high end nurseries.. most offer what you seek.. and will sell you the plants... now is probably the time to get on the schedule.. not once the winter breaks ...

we used a landscape architect to design the planting beds and hardscape. we wanted a cottage type garden with seasonal interest to complement our Victorian home.

Do you have a friend or neighbor with lovely gardens? Ask who their designer is. See a beautiful garden while you're out and about? Knock on the door and ask about the designer.

Keep looking :-) Plant knowledgeable designers are out there. And focus on landscape or garden designers, not landscape architects. LA's tend to focus on larger commercial or municipal projects and much less frequently on individual residences. And are not always that plant savvy. Plant knowledge is not part of their standard curriculum.

^^ interesting! we talked with two LAs, both specialized in residential (ranging from large estate properties to smaller gardens) both were also ”plant savvy.” i guess we were lucky.

You were. I have been called in multiple times to redo gardens initially designed by a LA. Hugely unsuitable plant choices.

Since plant identification and husbandry is not part of most landscape architecture college curriculums, any plant savviness a LA may have is self taught.
