Please look at the room in its entirety, and not as parts. We want some unity and cohesiveness here! I sort of like the idea of painting the table and buffet black. Keep in mind that you will then have a high contrast between the sheers and the buffet. You may want to soften that with being very intentional about the items on top of the buffet. Medium/dark gray may be a less harsh color for the buffet and the table. If you do that, make sure the buffet/table color goes with the wall color.

thank you, i know its a lil all over the place. trying to bring it all together.

  • last year

Yes, a more statement light fixture, 36" off the table top.

I would remove all the little pieces throughout the room... clear the table since it's the first thing you see on entering the home. I wouldn't paint the top of the table, but possibly the base. I wouldn't try to match the buffet, but painting it different would be handsome.

Center the rug... looks like a boarder on the floor, show it off. Patterned drapery panels would add a little more interest and could introduce a nother color or colors in to the space. ... is the kitchen open to the dining room?

  • last year

great ideas, and yes the kitchen is open to the dining room. It is a straight through home.

turn the table on the diagonal.

Why black? I could see the buffet going dark blue if anything. Curtains with some pattern and color would also help. Use your rug as inspiration.

  • last year

Dark blue never thought of it!

  • last year

I think I'm seeing some gold and/or maybe green in the rug???? I would paint the walls before painting the furniture. Somehow I find gray DR rather dull.

I would replace placemats with less contrast plus chandelier. Plus double curtains for fluffiness in both rooms..

“turn the table on the diagonal.”

Beverly, is that done to maximize space or more for appearance…or both?

I'd get a new rug, something with pattern and color. It all looks very gray/black/white as it is.

Paint the walls and beadboard a color from the rug. Perhaps add a pretty wallpaper above the beadboard. Paint the buffet another color from the rug--no more black. Color could enliven the room.

I love Celery's examples. A nice chandelier, some bold artwork, and it really looks great.

Thank you all. now what kind of chandelier and color gold black. i am so clueless with design as you can see. also i am open to other new items if needed.

I think painting your walls a medium to dark blue (like the blue in your rug) would go the farthest for the least amount of $. The gray on your walls is not doing your lovely room size, wainscotting, and nice wood floors any favors. If this were my house that is what I would do. I think the rug is workable with changes to rest of room... If I painted the walls blue I would probably want a small pattern with blue (... maybe a skinny stripe- something like this??). I would also put up some art! Those smallish changes I think would go a long way and allow you to use what you already have. As for chandeliers, your style and budget are the limiting factors- so many options to choose from!

@hope stewart i thought about painting the was sw naval the walls now are agreeable grey

@Celery. Visualization, Rendering images thank you for your input i added more photos of room aswell

  • last year

If you look at the total room you are saturated with gray. imo gray is boring & cold. do the walls or paint the furniture

  • last year

I think you need a larger light fixture, lower and centered over the table. Your rug might actually be a bit too large for the table. Clear the table and buffet of the little stuff. I like Beverly’s suggestion to rotate the table and chairs diagonally.

The round table can stay the way it is. It’s the chairs that can be re positioned. 😉

Open the curtains and move the furniture piece to a solid wall. Like comments when pictures were added to the wall. Two complementary open arm dining chairs could be added to sides of your cabinet with a lighted picture or mirror above it - it will expand the use of the room.

Thanks for the update. The new wall color looks GREAT!

  • last year

Can’t wait to see it finished!

I think the new curtains go beautifully with the colors in the room but yes, they are too high. Not by much but they should be longer.

OMYGOSH, Love Renee! I just saw your post! I am so flattered that you went with my suggestion on painting the wall a rich color and the lighting! Wow! I don't even remember where I saw it! looking great! :-).

Its looking great! How do you feel about the changes?

Found another pair of curtains i like what do you guys think?

  • last year

    Looking so nice! I those!!

  • last year

    Like!!;-)

  • last year

Love the new curtains (and wall color) but you might need the next longer length. Can’t tell if they go all the way to the floor. Rod height is good, as close to the ceiling as possible so as to not visually shorten your ceiling height. But if curtains don’t go all the way to the floor, they will look like high water pants. (You can use iron-on hem tape to hem a longer pair if you don’t sew.)

  • last year

Love the room and the paint and I love the curtains but you know what they don't skim the floor they're a little short you can lower the rod a little it doesn't have to touch the ceiling but be like two three inches from the ceiling is good

  • last year

Love Renee, I don't think there's anything you can do to avoid having high water curtains when you have a baseboard radiator, but maybe you can find a plant stand or a large basket to display on either side of the cabinet that will distract from it. I think It will look amazing no matter what!! Can't wait to see the final project.

  • last year

I didn't realize it had mop board heater I had one of those before at another place and I opened my curtains during the day so the room can get some heat I don't know how they hate that they're closed that I used to close them at night

  • last year

Apologies- I missed the baseboard heaters.
