Craftsman is by far my favorite style of home. I love the wood builtins and detail. I confess that while I could never paint the beautiful dark wood inside these homes myself, I still love them even when someone else has painted the interiors - painted wood inside a craftsman is my guilty pleasure. :)

I would love to build a Craftsman (European house)Home. But I would not turn this one away with the welcoming porch.

craftsman style is the best! It is sturdy and comfortable at the same time ! My grandmothers home was craftsman style and it is cozy and elegant at the same time and I love it!

We've enjoyed designing an entire home in Craftsman style. Craftsman gives many opportunities to add layers of detail!

I enjoy Modern Craftsman style and love going on home tours here in Minneapolis. I continually get inspiration for my Craftsman Nouveau art style for home decor, fabric and art projects.

I grew up in a Craftsman bungalow, and still adore the style, it's my dream home. However, it's physically painful when I see the woodwork painted. I understand the aesthetic, but it just seems sacrilegeous to me. ;)

My only drawback with the Craftsman is the very dark stained oak interiors. I'm afraid I would have to paint. Sorry!

We have a well-loved bungalow in Colorado Springs. I love the simplicity of the lines that marries nicely with our Scandinavian heritage and our love of Japanese esthetics.

Craftsman homes are just so warm and inviting. They have a timeless quality that withstands the decades and the design shifts over those decades. I love this Craftsman home here in Steamboat Springs, CO and does it ever have a story to tell. Former Olympians and ski greats, Buddy & Skeeter Werner, were raised here many years ago. Many of the classic Craftsman-style details remain like built-ins and rich wood trim. The remodel to the kitchen, bathrooms and family room a few years ago goes well with the time period and the rusticity of the home. Take a look at the concrete countertops and breakfast bar, the reclaimed metal roofing on the walls, barn wood ceiling and the inlayed slate and river rock on the floor in high traffic areas. It's not necessarily Craftsman but the two styles work well together without upstaging the Craftsman.

Construction of our empty nester Craftsman is underway. This style is perfect for us and the lot. I suppose a modern Craftsman would best describe it. Many details planned on the exterior and considerably less of the traditional Craftsman details inside, keeping our eye on the view. We're 3 months into building, with a completion in July.

My husband and I are long-time Craftsman/Arts & Crafts keeners and we've just realized our life-long dream of owning a Craftsman home. It is located in Victoria, BC, and, amazingly, we are only its second owners. The heritage-designated house is in all-original condition, which is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it's had no injustices done to it, but, on the other, few essential updates were made, either. This means that we have a long road of restoration and repair ahead of us.

We aren't able to move into it just yet and are renting it out to family in the meantime. We did, however, spend the month following possession to do as much as we could to make the house inhabitable. The old gal got a complete wiring overhaul, a new roof, new footings for the support posts in the basement, and as much plaster repair and painting as we could manage.

We have many things ahead of us to solve, the most pressing one being how to make the most of a very small kitchen with 4 doors leading into it. As you will see in the photo, the kitchen is in its original 1912 state. Prior to us buying the house, a wood stove graced this room. We installed the house's first-ever electric stove (for now - a gas stove is in this kitchen's future)!

Our aim is to protect and preserve this house, making as few changes to its interior layout as possible. And although painted trim looks lovely in many Craftsman homes, we wouldn't have the heart to paint over the pristine woodwork in this one.

defender808: I've been following the story of your new house purchase over on Discussions. What a marvelous house; I love every photo that you've shared with the Houzz community, thus far. I'm so excited for you and hope that you'll continue to post updates as you work on your fabulous Craftsman.

Thanks JB. Here's a few from the carpet removal. I'm in design discussion phase now. We are planning to get to work by mid Dec. I love the house. It's intimidating but worth it.

Oh my goodness - yes, D808: entirely intimidating and overwhelming, but sooo worth it in the long run. I take solace in the many stories out there of projects far crazier than the one that you and I are taking on. If they can do it, so can we, right? :)
