Contractor cut granite wrong

We've been remodeling our house for the past 3 months. He's been a great contractor has done more than he should have and very responsive. We are a week away from being done and he went to install the cooktop on the new granite. They cut the granite wrong and now the cooktop has a 3/4 inch gap between the cooktop and granite. They used the old cooktop to measure the hole instead of using the dimensions I gave him. I'm so mad right now and not sure if I should tell him he needs to pay for new granite or I just pay for a trim filler. Am I out of line? Suggestions?

If the granite is otherwise done well, and you have a place to put a larger cooktop, then I would return the cooktop you just bought and get a larger one, and ask him to pay the difference in price.

The answer is in the contract and I never received a copy so can't say if there's a provision allowing contractor mistakes.

What does a provision for contractor mistakes look like?

If the contractor messed up, it is on him to fix it. If he knew, or should have known, that you were using a new cooktop, then he is on the hook for the repair or replacement.

No .. you are not out of line... it's your right to have good quality work... and you are fairly too... you mentioned that contractor was great and so responsive also he have done more than he should have....

I think you need "by somehow" a solution for this issue...

Would you tell what did he said when he knew about that gap.

It's the contractor's error and they should bear the cost to remedy it.
