Miele speed oven - is it worth it/does it work well?

last year

Hello
We are renovating our kitchen and I'm interested in a speed oven. Basically so I can have an oven and a half and no need for a microwave.
The sales guy suggested the Bosch or Meile as they have bake and broil elements so can function as a true oven. The Bosch has horrible reviews.
Miele sounds good but is so expensive.......
Does anyone have a newer model? How well does it work as a microwave? As an oven? How much can you fit in there? Is it worth it?
We are looking at around 2-3x the price to go with a Miele speed and Wall oven vs a GE double oven (I realize that's a huge difference in brands). Am trying to figure out if Miele is really worth it.

I have had the Miele Speed/Wall/CSO ovens for almost 9 years now. I love all 3 of them and would buy them again. The speed oven works great as a second oven - it has almost all the oven modes as my wall oven. It does have a lower max temp than the wall oven but that has not been an issue for me. I can fit all of my baking pans in the oven. The largest baking sheet that fits comfortably is a jelly roll size sheet. It works fine as a microwave, but I am not a big microwave user. Usually just use the minute button and stop the oven when I need to. I do use the lower power setting if heating up something more delicate. The speed function is ok but use it rarely - mainly to speed up baking potatoes. Being retired - speed cooking is not a need for me anymore. The wall oven is wonderful. It heats relatively quickly, is VERY quiet (important for me), and bakes very evenly. I love all the different cooking modes and the masterchef features. Both the speed and the wall oven have been very reliable.

I agree they are pricey and definitely more expensive than when I purchased them in 2015. Have you looked at the advantium to pair with a GE wall oaven? There is a lot of love for that oven on this forum. If you search Advantium in discussions your should find serveral threads. Seems that might be more cost effective.

In CR's tests, the KitchenAid KOCE500ESS ($3200) was a top-notch performer and its upper microwave oven includes convection cooking via heating elements.

@Kim G: "I had a similar kitchen aid wdccruise mentions below in our last home - 2002 model."

That's nearly a quarter-century ago. Certainly the KOCE500ESS is not the same appliance. The turntable can be turned off. The upper convection oven is 1200 watts (900 watt microwave). I don't know why one wouldn't want to use that to convection-cook smaller quantities of food in that oven's 1.4 cf cavity rather than heating the the larger, 5.0 cf lower convection oven.

A micro without convection is useful. The convection add-on is a waste and not used, ime.

This is the worst appliance ive owned. have the 4000$ vesrsion. slow unresponsive screen. bad presets. no one touch buttons besides 1 minute. beeps at me all the time. have to clikc a few times to do anything invluding turn it off. worse the microwave has stpped workinf 4 times in 3 years. repairs are 350$ minimum. it is becuase of badly designed door latches so will keep happening and common. if you wanr a 4000 microwave that doesnt work, this is the one. otherwide avoid

we have had since 2014 and its been great.

    would not be without it.

use it multiple times a day.

we have none of the above problems, so i guess we are lucky.

i don't consider not having 'one touch button' and issue. it is a multi use appliance, not your run of the mill MW.

we only have to hit 'off' to turn off, so i have no idea what thegeneralist is speaking about.

If @thegeneralist has not done this - is to change the start screen to ”operating modes” so when you turn the oven on the cooking mode choices are displayed. This can be done via the settings menu. Once I found this - it made using these ovens much easier - I have 3 Miele ovens. If you want to get back to the ”main menu” (factory default start screen) you just tap back. I have had my speed oven for 9 1/2 years and have not had any issues. I too use it amost daily and most of the time as a regular oven - not a microwave.

If you turn the oven off in the middle of a cycle - like using the minute button but only use it for 30 seconds - the oven asks you to verify you want to turn off. That’s the only item I can think of.

I read that the incidence of this failure can by reduced by either shutting off or pausing the oven before opening the door rather than pausing the oven by opening the door.
