Kitchen Layout Feedback

Hi folks!
I’ve found discussions and input here to be really creative and thought-provoking. We are working on a home renovation which will include redoing and expanding our existing kitchen. So there are limitations related to where (existing, historic) walls and windows are. I’d love folks’ opinion on the design we have so far, plus input on a specific question:

What to do about our exhaust hood above our induction cooktop? The designer is recommending a recessed ceiling-mount “hood,” which I don’t think it going to be very effective at all, plus I don’t like the look of what appears to be a big shiny vent in the ceiling. We have high ceilings. The cooktop is 36” and the space between the window trim is more like 30”. If we were to remove the trim around the windows, I think we’d have room for a 36” hood, possibly an insert in a drywalled and tiled enclosure?

Attaching architectural plans (which have the architect’s placeholder layout) along with the layout/elevations our designer has proposed.

A few things to note:

  • There is a small pantry next to the “coffee bar”
  • The “coffee bar” is in a shallow recess — the lower cabinets will be just 13” deep, uppers are 11” deep, but I’ve determined this will be enough for a small sink.

One change is that the “coffee bar” will also have upper cabinets.

Would love ANY and ALL input! Thank you!
