Hosta Large and Giants 2023 .........................................

Good morning and welcome to the Giants. Plants so tall they dwarf some people. I dream of growing them big, just happy to keep them alive. Show me yours:

The color of turtles.

Show me the Giants.

Yes, those turtles are fantastically coloured.

What a great bunch of large you have Beth. Wave Runner is wonderful and I will say it again that the stance of your Yellow River is terrific.

Alex Summers is young but looking forward to it gaining size.

Blue Angel well over 8' the last time I measured.

    Drop Dead Gorgeous

Earth Angel. I cleaned up and mulched after this pic.

wow tablets go way back!!! 😂..

the turtles have my heart 💕..

    Beth and Laurie..love Komodo Dragon..

most of us have Blue Angel..posting anyway because I’m proud of them Lol..

    3 different BAs..

see how much bigger BA is than June or Fire Island?..

Sum and Substance..2 of them probably too close together 🙁..

Honeybells is pretty big..wouldn’t want to move it..Lol..

Paula, I adore the turtle picture! I would frame and hang if I could buy it.

Beth, tj, Laurie and Ann, your yards are made for the big ones! Loving everyone’s Komodo Dragons and Blue Angels! Beth, Sagae has such a nice upright growth and must say Wu-la-La is looking great!

Laurie, can’t believe the size of your BA! Drop Dead Gorgeous, IS! Awesome size and color on your Krossa and Sagae as well….. I have said this before, if my Winter Snow ever gets that big, I’ll have to move it! Lol

tj, you have so many terrific seedlings! The blue on the Kuenster is unbelievable! Victory is huge and graceful and I’m so jealous your McWilliams seeding grew nicely…..mine died off. When yours is big enough to split, I would love to have a piece….🙏🏽

Ann, your Blue Angels are all beautiful and never be afraid to post them! Sum & Substance is looking good, even if it’s 2 plants…I often buy two plants and plant as one to have some size right away, if the price is right. Honeybells is one I don’t have…..very fragrant I understand….. yours is gorgeous!

Wow! I love these giants. I don’t have much luck with giants because they’re best grown in the ground. I grow 90% of mine in pots due to myriad critters, pests, and blight. Here are mine: NOID, two of Elegans for perspective, and Winter Snow, all in pots.

debra..your Blue Hawaii is awesome!..I have 2 BHs..smaller than yours but I love them anyway..

utog..a funny question..do you ever find Elegans seedlings in the ground next to where your pots sit?..my Elegans gives me seedlings..

this is the summer we redo the path!..I’ve been removing river rock, putting it in Target bags and giving it to a neighbor..I took a bag today..took 2 a few days ago..then the stepping stones will be used somewhere in back..THEN I can move my seedlings!..the new look will be a rustic woodland path with mulch/leaf litter..

Nice idea for the woodland path! No, I have not gotten any Elegans seedlings yet.

utog..I think the river rock retains heat and helps seeds germinate..I didn’t buy the rock..it was in back and I moved it..a decision I regret but I got a lot of seedlings as a silver lining!..
    look at the hellebore seedlings..

You’re probably right about the rock. I have relocated lots of hellebore seedlings. 10 years later, here they are:

the rock must make a difference..there are seedlings everywhere..I’ve had hosta, hellebores, heuchera, astilbes, trees, arborescens hydrangeas, wildflowers and weeds..

what a nice hellebore patch!..I’ve had success moving them too..I love hellebores..

I really like all the giants and large. Most of mine while still fairly healthy are smaller than a couple years ago.
