Sorry I've Been Away So Long...

DH & I have been very busy with boat projects and traveling these past 6 months, and prior to that, emptying a 4 br house and selling everything to live aboard a sailboat. We finally made it to Bimini in the Bahamas yesterday. Warm, clear water and summer temps! We will start making our way south down the Exumas next week!
I have managed to complete a few quilts since August, but it is not always feasible to sew or quilt aboard.
The first is a quilt-as-you-go hexie pattern by Diane Murtha. You make the hexies by wrapping backing fabric around colored hexies & batting, then zigzag them together. It has become my favorite quilt on board, especially on passages.
The second, an orca panel quilt(I quilted the panel then added borders) The third was class project from Paducah AQS show in 2022 that the late Klaudeen Hanson taught. She was a lovely woman!
Working on a mermaid panel quilt now, but not ready for pictures yet ;-]
I have all of my fabric that I could fit on board stowed in the v-berth cubbies!
Finally have a decent picture of our "Shelagh" in action as well.

You have been busy - and doing amazing quilts on top of everything. Those hexie squares are really cool. Love all of them.

Love your quilts, Char! And your boat is beautiful! I have only been a passenger on sailboats, and only a few times, but I loved it. However, I don’t think I’d like living aboard for very long. Too much like camping! 😆 I do think I would like to learn to sail.

Char,, your quilts are great. I really admire you for keeping up on your hobby under really less-than-ideal circumstances. Sailing is wonderful, but sailing and quilting seem pretty incompatible to me. You've made it work!! Shelagh looks beautiful underway.

Donna, sailing is also a wonderful hobby. I found it a very empowering pasttime. I started sailing in my late 40's and racing shortly thereafter. It was my passion until I was about 73. At that time, I thought I'd leave racing to the younger set. I still love to sail, but since I sold my boat after I quit racing, I don't do it much any more. For Char, it's a lifestyle now.

To me, sailing feels like flying might feel. I raced Hobie Cats in my twenties. Great memories.

I don't think I would do well living on a boat. I'm not sure I would like anyone well enough to be that close 24/7 for days on end.

My husband tells me I'm turning into a racer, lol. He raced in his 20's alot. I think cruising is more My speed. Set the sails and sit back and read or do some EPP. My first attempt at that...just a hot pad.
