Propogation, i have a 3 year goal to multiply some of my little known plants and then put them up for sale. Not thru the usual tc, mass production route, of course quantities will be small, so they will be in that specialty rare category. ….and the price will have to reflect the decades of work i have put into them.

Plan on moving/dividing hostas into containers for my reclaimed sitting area. I’m excited!!

you all know this..I want to redo my front path..I could list quite a few more plans but the path is my main goal..3 steps are needed..

1. removing river rock and giving it to a neighbor..I’ve made progress with this first step..

2. lifting the stepping stones..

3. removing the volunteer plants and planting them elsewhere..

HOAs can have some scary people in them! I had to stare at that motorcycle pic for a little bit and then it made sense. And I didn’t know there was a place to touch two continents at once. Amazing!

I always have a long “to do” list. This year is no exception. But to start out …..

I’d like to replace my Spring Snow crabapple tree that the tree cutting service accidentally cut down in October. Nine years ago I was able to carry it up the hill and plant it myself. You can imagine how upset I was. Crying time.

And I will continue to modify the way I get water to my plants. I want to rely on the overhead sprinklers less and have a more targeted way of getting water to individual plants.

Of course, planting more hostas is on the agenda!

Ann, your daffodils are cheerful looking! How nice to have flowers again. I saw today that I have many that are up an inch or two, which made me happy to see the green.

I have ordered too many plants already! I have to redo a portion of my front yard because of a construction project. One vendor has already sent the six hostas that I ordered. The other plants and a couple of shrubs will begin arriving in April. Lots of digging in my future!

1. I'm going to have to re-sod (have it done) my backyard, as I didn't water it enough last year and my yard guy smothered it with mulch in the winter.

2. I want to plant some Carolina Jessamine on my side of an 8 ft. fence my neighbor built.

3. I want to get my hosta in better shape, requiring very regular fertilizing.

......and the list goes on.

Touching two continents is beyond fabulous! It took me a minute to figure out the motor cycle pic. It really is a matter of perspective.

A huge hedge was taken down that provided shade for Love Pat, El Nino, Black Hills and Maple Leaf. They are not thrilled since I do not water. We have had drought conditions for the past 3 years and I am on a well. I have never had an issue with the well but I cannot take the chance that I will. I have two choices...I either provide them with water or relocate them which would mean prepping a new bed. Part of me is excited by this prospect but the part of me that cleans up in fall is thinking eeek more to clean up. I do need space for so many others that I have been holding in pots. Decisions, decisions.

I will mulch beds that I redid last fall.

I will plant some sunny areas that I had cleared out last fall too.

My plans are like decisions. Have you heard of the three frogs sitting on a log? They all made a decision (plan) to jump in the water. Two of them jumped but the third one did not, he only made a decision, never acted on it. I'm that proverbial frog, still sitting on the log. :(

I do hope to do a few things this year. I need to dig up several hostas and free the tree roots from them. The smaller really stunted ones pot up. I want to do another whiskey barrel planting but can't decide what variety that would compliment the Komodo Dragon. I'm thinking Wu-La-La or possibly Liberty, any suggestions?

Debra there is no girl. The helmet on the handlebars is causing the illusion of a girl perhaps sitting on the fellows lap. Now that you know you will see it!

I thought it was the 3 Budweiser frogs.

My goals or plans are:

1. Not to appear in the front yard dressed in your pajamas and then chase birds down the street (crows).

2. Actually, get the repotting done. I am thinking of awarding prizes.

3. Get a better slingshot. Again crows.

4. Repair reclining lawn furniture as I fell though both this year.

5. Order soon the hosta. I am doing some moving about to make more room for them. The returns from last year are looking good.

6. Do more with zinnias.

7. Get dressed in street clothes at least once a week.

8. Feed the plants more.

9. Take better photos. Not just major masses of green.

and 10. Move the BBq, get the house painted ect ect ect.

I will be back on December 26 and I have already started saving jokes.

Deborah, it’s quite a good illusion, isn’t it? Like Laurie said, ….and to add a bit more, the black patterned fabric is the guy’s shorts as he’s leaning sideways. So what looks like a woman’s shoulders and arm is really his leg bent at the knee and the helmet must be sitting on his handle bars.

Paula, you can check in before December and let us know how your hostas are doing and your progress on other things! Take better photos is on my list, too.

I want to finally use the BBQ I had put together last year and invite some friends to a BBQ on the patio I haven't used yet. I want to move 2 overly aggressive columbines to their own containers so they don't overshade the hostas in the same container they're in. I want to plant a new Royal Tiara hosta, as mine didn't make it through the move to my house from my apartment balcony. I have already applied weed killer to many of the weeds invading the lawn and rose garden, and the kids next door promised to pull out weeds for me, as one of my prescriptions makes me dizzy to bend over and then straighten up.

And, with any luck, the new front door and side door, which I had ordered almost 2 years ago, will finally be installed by a 4th contractor. The first guy hasn't returned calls for 3 weeks, supposedly waiting for his star carpenter to get back to him. The second guy now has 3 hernias and is supposedly retiring, The third guy is not qualified to do advanced framing carpentry. But this 4th guy looks very promising. Wish me luck getting the beautiful new door and storm door installed, after almost 2 years. It's currently leaning against the dining room wall, where it does me a whole lotta good.

Paula, Your to-do / goal list made me laugh - so real & so close to mine. It’s easy to see you’re doing your retirement the right way - your goal #’s 1 & 7 are the tip off! Personally, I find #1 is easier to accomplish in spring & summer because I can’t perform gardening tasks well in my robe & PJ’s so I’m usually dressed before noon on those days I plan to spend working around in my yard. #7 is accomplished on days we make a trip to either library or grocery store as some of my gardening clothes are really not

”street clothes” caliber even when they’re freshly laundered.

Thank you so much for your Hosta posts and cartoons - they’ve given me something to look forward to with my coffee many a dark winter morning here in my PNW!

Feeling behind with this weather... Nicholworth, love those daffodils, so cheerful , mine have started but not there yet.

Plans... This is first year I have not ordered plants. I probably will place small order though. Have 6 trays of new streakers growing and noted lots of small ones from last year heaved out. Remains to be seen on losses.

Started tons of veggie seeds for annual plant swap, May 18 this year.

Need to take care of deck specially railings ASAP as I can only do it now before clematis takes over.

Moved raspberry bushes to the new area, still need to move currants and gooseberries. Still trying to find better locations for them.

Hubby hopefully will work on watering system for veggie gardens.

This year Midwest hosta is conference in WI, hoping to visit.

Started soil program, will have to repeat soil test in the fall.

Started applying Sluggo, will need to do ammonia drench early, all my slugs appear alive and well...

Wow, lindalana you are seeing slugs already? Yikes! I will have to be ready at the first sign of pips! Right now I only have vague ideas of where all my hostas are at this point. And we are expecting snow Friday they are saying…..

Yep, they survived. Do not know what mother nature had in mind when created them but I am way past "live and let live" usual strategy.

I have see few tiny pips already. That is scary.
