Help with window dilemma

Hi all,

I've spent months planning an interior remodel, and I was thrown for a loop when a friend just suggested that I add floor-to-ceiling windows, like a Nanawall. I hadn't considered it--expensive and current windows are pretty large--but there's a big overhang on the back patio that keeps out a lot of light, and the views, which are stunning, aren't as apparent from inside the house as they could be if the back wall were mostly glass

. I'm including some interior and exterior pics (excuse the mess) and pics of the views. I'd love some feedback on whether the expense of replacing these windows with floor-to-ceiling and a bigger exterior door would really add value, mainly for beauty, as we don't plan to sell. TIA!

Your views are absolutely stunning. Perhaps you could take a couple of photos with your back to the windows so that we can see the interior?

Sure, Jenny, great idea. I'm attaching a photo of the current, not-so-great, interiors, and my plans for the house post remodel (furniture, art and accessories not yet included in post design). sThe post picture is to scale, although for some reason the camera view makes the great room look smaller. I'm spending a great deal on the interiors, which is why I didn't even think about windows, but now I'm wondering if a wall of windows would be money better spent? LMK your thoughts. Thanks!

Gorgeous views, stunning pool and lovely home. The interior is dark, but the massive dark leather reclining sofa and dark wood aren't helping.

I see what looks like a blue paint swatch and a variety of flooring samples. Have you sought the help of an interior designer? I'm guessing warm wall colors will work well with all your wood.

I also see what looks like a security door. Is that an issue? Not sure how that would work with a nanowall.

We have a large 16’ slider instead of nano door. Much cheaper, just as much light, can open very wide

Thanks, Debrak6, those are the kinds of things I was hoping I'd get feeback on, so really appreciate your comment. If the view could be top to bottom, I'm sure it would be worth it, but as you say, with the overhang, the view might not improve much and yes, the back patio is a cluttered mess (I'm new to this house and family, and they don't prioritize organization and tidiness like I do lol) which would undoubtedly drive me crazy if I were looking at it all day, though the idea would be that that area would improve, too...but maybe I'm way overthinking it and should just stick to the remodel inside. Thanks! @Latofolia, agree that all interior finishes are wrong, hence the huge remodel that starts early May. I built the house on CAD and have worked tirelessly on design and finishes and I've gotten the help of some experts along the way. You can see a rendition of the 'after' above from CAD. Security here isn't an issue. On the front and back the house has some of that screen that looks like security. i think it's a Tucson thing, but it's not for security. Maybe I should just get a much bigger, full glass back door, and nix the iron grille, and call it good :-)

@westcoasthopeful I'm having a window guy come on April 1 to discuss options, and a large slider is definitely a possibility, especially if it's less expensive. Thanks!

I think your plan sounds good. A bigger door to the porch is always a nice thing to look at and use, especially with such a beautiful back yard. I just happen to have a really similar situation, clear to the general house style. Our LR has a set of clerestory windows up high which are beautiful architecturally but only show the dark porch roof and don't let in any additional light. I happened to visit a couple places and find some photos which triggered the realization about nanawalls and low glass "featuring" the porch surface and the patio furniture instead of the far view. Good luck on your remodel!

I get it debrak6 and I really do appreciate your thoughts. This is one of the beauties of Houzz--people like you are so generous with your own experience and it's a big help. Thanks again!

We used Euro-wall sliders. Good quality and a reasonable price (not inexpensive though!)

I keep my patio/lanai very neat with just the furniture and "curated" plants (that don't drop leaves!). I also had new cushions made that were off-white and blended with the off-white patio pavers and light beige pool tile. Nothing to distract you when looking out past the pool and to the golf course view. If you aren't a very neat person/family then the lower exposure you get with sliders might not be a good idea.

I like your current windows. Love the idea of adding a slider.

That sounds lovely, Chispa! I am a super neat person and very into aesthetics. My newish partner is the polar opposite, so it's a challenging union. I keep telling him how impressed I am with his neatness post remodel...I can see it in my CAD view, where he has only hand soap, lotion and a nicely covered tissue box on his bathroom vanity LOL. Maybe if I focus hard enough on that vision it will come true :-) I'll take a look at Eurowall. Thanks!~
