I'm thinking an asymmetric gallery in a horizontal orientation. I like the idea of white frames and mattes in multiple sizes. The example I pasted here is on a white wall but this gives the idea.

For the family photos, consider family vacation shots outdoors in nature or in the city for the interesting artistic effect and as a conversation starter.

I do not like family photos in spaces where you entertain IMO they are best displayed out of the main living area and a perfect spot is in ahallway leading to bedrooms . I think one nice big piece of art there and maybe a lamp on each end or a lamp and a vase filled with fresh flowers

I love that configuration. I say go for it!

We might suggest looking for one large piece of artwork or two smaller pieces for over those consoles. If doing a gallery wall, look at doing something like you see in these images below:
