Asking for my MIL has a zone 8b garden PNW. She has been wanting to plant a Philadelphus for the longest time. I have seen a beautiful lewisii in the UW arboretum, but it might be too big for her space. Only 3 feet horizontal space, lots of vertical space.

Are there any other Philadelphus that she should consider?

The Snowbelle is commonly available and only gets 3-4 feet wide.

Snowbelle is a double flowered cultivar

My personal preference is for the singles. Petite Perfume White is one. You might want to shop when they're in flower since scent perception is quite personal. I once had Manteau d'Ermine and it had little scent to me despite the blurb saying it was fragrant. Plus is was double.

Philadelphus microphyllus- daintier than p.coronarius in all aspects...with a most unusual fragrance (bubblegum).

I got a single flower. I am looking into philadelphus microphyllus - had never heard of it before. Thanks for the suggestion!
