Bosch range - is it child safe?

I am thinking of getting the Bosch 800 induction range and saw it in person today for the first time. I noticed there's a small gap in the oven door where the inner metal material is exposed and a finger can easily touch the metal. I have several very young children and am concerned this is a safety hazard. Does anyone know if this metal part gets very hot? the salesman at a local appliance store didn't know for sure. the door is fully closed in this image.

Fisher & Payker offer shallower ranges that sit flush and are very sleek but I've heard people complaining of the small sized elements - I think the biggest one was under 9" but double check if you are considering the brand. I like the 800 series (please note I have the slide in), but I am not in love. Don't like the elements placement and for that reason I regret not getting the Benchmark series. The hinges are fine and I wouldn't know any better unless I had the soft close ones on my previous Benchmark, I got spoiled lol but they are fine, just feel a bit cheap and light when operating the door, definitely not a deal breaker. Bosch is a very reliable brand and I like that the glass top sits above the counter and there are no gaps. Few ranges offer that and it's definitely a plus for me. You'll hear some buzzing and humming with most stainless steel cookware (I have Made-In, Viking, Fissler, Demeyere Atlantis, Ikea and all are making noises), but cast iron works more quietly. I already scratched the glass somehow, no idea as I'm super careful but I feel like the more I baby something, the more damage I cause. And small scratches will appear with use, that is normal. I don't like how easy the pots and pans slide when I stir, there's nothing to grip to and it's pretty annoying. I miss my gas cooktop but don't miss the fumes and cleaning. Hope this helps! This doesn't look like the induction model. I have the 800 series and there are no knobs. Are you sure you are looking at the right model? This is what the side looks like

This is the one i looked at today. In some of the images you can kind of see that the front stainless panel is thin and flat and doesn't curve around the edges. I think the manual knobs on induction are a new feature?

Ooohhh I see - you are looking at the freestanding and I have the slide in. In any case, I'd go with the Benchmark series, the hinges of the 800 are awful. I just switched from brand new dual fuel Benchmark to 800 and it feels.

Thanks for the insight! What happens with the 800 hinges? Has the range been reliable and perform ok? I'm looking specifically for a range that is around 25" total depth so that's why i was initially leaning towards the 800

Manufacturers just design their oven doors and chassis in different ways.

Bosch door has a flat sheet metal front. Black painted metal is visible behind the front sheet metal.

LG wraps sheet metal around three sides the full thickness of the door.

GE Profile wraps the door with sheet metal but shallower on the sides.

There's always going to be a gap between the door and the chassis. In all models, the gasket that prevents heat from escaping the oven is inset from the sides of the range; one cannot stick his fingers into the oven. My LG range has a 3/8" gap between the door and the chassis. I wouldn't let the design determine my choice. (BTW: The pictured LG LSIS6338F is a CR top-rated model.)

LG LSE4617ST (discontinued): no cooktop scratches, no buzzing (IKEA and Calphalon pots).

@wdccruise thanks for this info. So does the black part of the bosch door get very hot? I understand there's a gasket to keep the oven heat in, but the black metal part is one piece with the inner part of the door and i would assume it would conduct heat throughout the black part. Kind of like a metal handle on a pot, it's often almost as hot as the pan itself.

The inner doors of all the pictured ranges are one piece of metal so the entire inner door is going to get hot. Note the vents in the tops of the doors (and sides of the Bosch in the photo you posted) to allow air to circulate between the inner and outer doors, helping to keep the outer door cooler. Your children quickly learn not to stick their fingers in there.

What wdcruise said. I would not let the remote possibility of kids getting hot fingers stop me from buying an otherwise suitable range. If they can't be taught to steer clear they will learn through experience without any serious injury.
