Very nice. Thanks for sharing. What zone are you growing them in? From when until when (which months) does the blooming season last? Just curious as I am too far south to grow them "easily". I got hooked up with deciduous azaleas when slightly further north but now I cannot grow them easily (too hot/dry here) either. No blues though. Great Balls Of Fire, Admiral Semmes, Varnadoe's Phlox Pink, General Forrest (sp?), etc.

I'm in zone 8b Oregon. The first Lepidote (they're earlier) 'Bob's Blue' started March 16 and I imagine the Elpidotes will continue until mid May or so.

The question of when they bloom though, is a moving target, considering the climate. Blue Baron started blooming exactly one month later last year.

@artinnature, I have both of those blue rhodies, but they are not blooming for me yet in Seattle. How much sun are they getting? Do you like Bob's blue?

They're in sun from about 11am until sundown. I like Bobs Blue a lot. The flower color isn't nearly as saturated as Blue Baron, but it blooms heavily. All of these Lepidotes have non-green foliage in winter, and I noticed this winter that Bob's Blue has the most attractive winter foliage color of all of them, a hard to describe dark, glistening purplish-bronze. Some look muddy and nearly dead in winter. This is normal but unfortunate, in some cases. If you grow them in a lot of shade the foliage will probably be greener.
