stain grade vs finger joint handrails?

Contractor installed finger joint maple handrails instead of clear solid maple rails. Rails are not being painted, just finished with poly. I’m not loving seeing the finger joint and sections of wood. Contractor says that the finer jointed rails are much sturdier and won’t warp like solid rails. I live in Vermont so heating and weather is a factor to consider. I am thinking of changing out the rails to solid clear stain grade. What are your thoughts?

After living with the finger joints for a year or so, evaluate whether or not they still bother you. Or bother you enough to pay to change them. I'm betting you'll find a better way to spend your money.

Great advice! Thank you. I think we are at the point of no return as I can’t go through the disruption of more remodeling or the expense right now. So finger joint handrails are what we need to live with I guess! Frustrating that the contractor didn’t know the difference.
