The clearances from a range top will not be compatible. The MW would end up almost on the floor. Impossible to use.

There is a reason you have never seen it. The reason it that it won't work as @Minardi said. There's not enough clearances for either appliance. Also, it is best to use the correct wording so that when you shop for appliances, there is no confusion. A "range" is the cooking appliance that you have now, with a cooktop and oven in one. When you say "gas countertop range", you mean either a "gas cooktop" or a "gas rangetop".

@Paul F. I see that instruction on the Wolf page - it specifies "as long as clearances are met" and then goes on to give cautions about doing it. The crux is the clearances. It's impossible to meet both the cooktop clearances and the drawer microwave clearances.

I have regular drawers under my gas cooktop. So why wouldn’t it be possible to put in a microwave drawer just slightly lower than the regular drawers? I admit that I didn’t read Paul’s post about clearances. I kind of like it when somebody does something new that hasn’t been done before.as long as it actually works from an engineering point of view.

Microwaves have a range of usefulness tied to height. I have dogs, having things down too low is asking for trouble. If you ave kids - same thing. Leaning down to deal with a plate in the microwave drawer would seem to be a terrible ergonomic idea

Read your local building code and appliance specifications to see if this is permitted.

You can put microwave right below a gas oven without a problem and right above the heat of a cooktop. I'm sure it can easily go below certain cooktops. Is it a good idea however? I'm not sure anyone would appreciate standing at the cooktop and having their nether regions almost pressed against the door of a running microwave. If you have limited space and or won't use the two appliances at the same time I don't see a problem however.

I like MWs to be on a counter and when they die I just go get a new one no big eal about the size . I would never want a MW under my cooktop I bet to meet the install below a gas cooktop will make the MW too low to even be workable.

Just set a countertop microwave on tbe floor. Because that will only be slightly lower than what is being proposed. It is a completely dysfunctional idea. If this is just to check the ”built in MW” box, do something else.
