Should I add drapery panels

last year

I’ve been thinking about installing white linen drapes with pale blue tape in my dining room. I will keep the shutters because they are very functional. Thoughts on adding the drapes?

White linen drapes would look great in this space. Pale blue tape? I see the pale blue lamps - any other blue in this room? Are you thinking the tape would be a border around the width & length of drapery panels? Is that green in the wallpaper? How about using green instead & add more blue touches with a centerpiece?

Thanks. I was thinking the blue tape only on inside of each panel. The wallpaper is green….

    I like it as is.

Maybe a colorful centerpiece to add more color.

Pretty paper. I’d either skip the tape trim or coordinate it with the wallpaper. Putting a different accent color on drapes would be too ”cluttered” looking IMO. I might not go as dark as the green in paper either.

    Both good points. Thank you

I think panels would be terrific and add some softness to the space - lovely room!

I’d look for a new rug that incorporates the colors you love. The rug there looks a bit outdoorsy.

I think panels will look nice. Just be sure you have enough room to the left of the left window so you can stack the panels and not cover the window frame.

You definitely Can. And I think that would look great. But you certainly don’t need it.

I might add a runner to the table. And then a centerpiece with some greenery or flowers.

A curtain on each side there would be beautiful, as Paul shows.

Other than that, I like the idea of just leaving the windows as they are, or just using some type of valances. I know valances are mostly against the law around here. But they are not against the law in real life, and they would work with your windows and style.

@cliffordhome - After looking at Paul F.’s mockup of white drape panel on the outside edge of each window I understand why you are considering a colored trim band on the leading edge of each drape. I had to study the pic for a bit to see his add - the single panels disappear & make the windows off balance. I think for drapes you’d need to have 2 panels on each window so each panel would be narrower than what‘s shown. But, the art between the windows would need to go since it’d be too large with less wall available. The windows & all the millwork / trim really is pretty on its own. I think I’d focus on adding to the table scape. A formal runner for fabric softness & texture and a knockout floral centerpiece. Although I liked the rug when walls were blue (I peeked at older posts) - maybe the wallpaper would be nicely accented with a more plush rug.

Or, as @freedomplace1 says, maybe add a valance! They would definitely work with your shutters!

Paul F - thank you for the picture. I don’t love the way the panel looks in the picture so think I’ll leave as is and also don’t want to change the art as ponted out by KW-PNW. I will work on getting a nice runner and some sort of centerpiece as many recommend.
I really appreciate all of the feedback and suggestions- so helpful.

@cliffordhome - The floral art is so perfect on that wall! I wouldn’t want to change it either! Since you’re moving on to thinking about table scape - I’ve been eyeing the pretty footed bowl filled with moss balls (?) and wondering how it would look on your table? It looks organic and has texture - pairs well with rug & wouldn’t detract from floral art. Would it work as a centerpiece, or part of one with the 2 silvered (?) hurricane lamps already on the table? My (?) are because I’m guessing at exactly what these items are even with zooming in on photos. But, if those 3 items play well together then all you need is a short runner on table.

Thank you. I’ll give it a try on the table but then will want something up on buffet…. I have a few things I can try over the weekend.

It’s always fun to shop our own homes, move things around a bit and try them out in different places. Easier to do that when colors and style flow throughout and I think yours do.

@cliffordhome I saw your post on the other thread - I’ve done that too. I learned you can delete your own post - there should be a ”Delete X” at bottom right of your own posts. But, I wanted to say that I love that white tureen on your sideboard and I’m kind of liking the moss bowl on table with the 2 vases (?). I wonder about adding short white flowers to it to give some height - something like silk hydrangeas, geraniums or roses. Just a few flowers so as not to cover the green moss too much. I’m on the fence with blue runner. I wonder about a print or multi color textured piece with both green & blue in it. That picture also gives a better view of the rug - another post noted it was jute & liked it but seeing it more closely it doesn’t look like jute - what is it?

PS - maybe the white flowers go into the 2 vases?

You have nice white california shutters so I don't think you need to install additional side drapes. I would suggest instead to bring more white into the room for contrast such a large centre piece for the table, and for the buffet, taller buffet lamps with white shades and a white decorative bowl.

Your picture is a bit dark but I'm sure the white trim and shutters are a nice white when in the room.
