Does anyone have a range with a griddle or a grill that they like?

last year

We are victims of the recent PIRCH company which closed their doors. We lost $18,500(!!) and now have no range. I am thinking of getting a differnt one than the Thermador we lost. So I am wondering if anyone actually uses their griddle on their range or their grill because maybe we will do that option. A friend told me they are SO hard to keep clean so she does not use her's. I can see that. Can anyone chime in?

IMO grilling is best done outside always and you can buy a griddle that spans 2 burners for less tha $50 and I have one I use on my gas range often with great results I sure do not think it is an addon I would ever do for myself or my clients . I live in canad grill outside all the time in the winter I do not love the smell of grilled meat permeating the whole house even with a fabulous venting system. There are a ton of good choices for gas ranges is that what you lost ?

Thank you ladies. Yes, I lost a 6 burner gas with 2 additional induction range that has a steam oven(that can also do convection), regular oven and warming drawer. (although I am hearing the warming drawers are still over rated too?)

Patricia, what sort of BBQ do you love outsode? not sure if that was a typo. thank you for the link Jan.
yes losing $18,500 with tax for that range is painful. now need to buy a new one and can't even get it for the deal we got before. Pirch really hurt us, many consumers, designers and landlords .. never pay before you get the product when ordering appliances. i am certain new laws will come into affect especially in CA where this occurred. We were told upside the credit card protection because it took so long and we ordered too early.

Oh my goodness, what a mess!

Do you need a very large range? Or could you do with a smaller one? Depending on your budget (which of course took a huge hit) you might want to downsize the range.

As for the grill/griddle question, we grill outside on a Weber gas-fired grill. Inside we have a fantastic electric griddle that we got on Amazon for $30. We tried the over-two-burner option, and it didn't work well for us. The electric griddle is fast, easy, and you can make 8-10 pancakes at a time. You can also cook the eggs, bacon and sausages on it. Because it has a nonstick surface, cleanup is very easy with dish soap and a sponge. We like it so much we bought one for our vacation home too.

Again, so sorry you have to deal with this!

I use the Engel Fires with a griddle pan. It's the best investment I've made in years.

"We are victims of the recent PIRCH company which closed their doors. We lost $18,500(!!) and now have no range."

Article on the Pirch bankruptcy including Amex Chargebacks.

"We were told upside the credit card protection because it took so long and we ordered too early."

"Upside"? What does this mean? The bankruptcy filing only took place in April 2024. How is that "too long"?

With a Citibank credit card, for example, one can dispute a transaction by simply expanding its entry in the online Transactions list and clicking 'Dispute Charge'. I clicked 'Dispute Charge' for a March 2023 transaction and the system did not reject the dispute because it was too old. Likewise, the Wells Fargo credit card transactions list's 'Dispute Charge' link worked for a January 2024 transaction. (Of course, I did not complete the disputes.)

I've had both on different ranges. I used the griddle constantly. For some reason I got a grill on the current range (Capital Culinarian) and almost never use it. I thought I could put my cast iron griddle on the grill to get double duty, but it takes forever to heat up and then doesn't get hot enough. The griddle pan over two burners produces two hot spots with a cold spot in the middle, as such pans are prone to do. The dedicated griddle with full coverage linear burners underneath works much better.

The grill doesn't have enough BTUS to actually grill anything other than fish or vegetables and requires the exhaust hood to run at the hurricane setting the whole time you use it. (The CC had about the highest available BTU output at the time we bought it). All of our grilling now gets done on the Weber gas grill outside and the space on the range is wasted.

If you get a griddle go with a plain steel or cast iron one and treat it as you would a cast iron pan.. The aluminum ones don't work nearly as well and avoid "nonstick" surfaces at all costs, they don't work and then they degrade and get even worse.

It wasn't the range, it was the chef!

    Some info here: https://bamasotan.us/griddle-faq/

Unless something has changed recently, Wolf has the best griddle/flat-top with the most even and stable temps. Unfortunately that comes with the downsides of Wolf, like poor burners.

Bluestar RNB is, sadly, a lessor griddle/flat-top but much better burners.

Others we measured all came in below BS.

We use our cast iron griddle all the time. Eggs, quesadillas, sandwiches, etc. Love that the temperature is even. Clean up the same as a any other cast iron.

I don't have fancy thermador or bluestar. I have a KA range with a removable griddle option that can go right into the dishwasher. LOVE it. but I avoid pancakes only on special breakfasts.
