Viking showroom, The Colony, Lewisville TX yesterday:

Sinage covers chip, according to salesperson.

Looks like a patch to me. If so, it's pretty well done.

It works as a wall covering.

EVERYTHING can chip, in the right circumstances. Even Corian. Maybe it or laminate needs a really forceful whack for it to happen. But everything chips. Especially if you have bulls in china shops that need to stay in the barn until taught civilized behavior. Because abuse is never covered by anyone's warranty for anything.

I've used Dekton many times in client projects, and have never heard any complaints. It's a very hard material, however, and you have to make sure your fabricator is certified for it. They've got some beautiful designs, IMO, and they are very durable.

"Does dekton chip?" yes. absolutely yes. It is very hard making it more prone to chipping than many other countertop options. It is commonly produced with very little radius on the upper corner because it is so hard it wears the diamond tooling in the fab shop much more quickly than other materials. The sharp corner also contributes to the increased potential for chipping. Not a good choice if you are concerned about shipping.

This thread is from last year. People shared their experiences with Dekton and did experience chips, including in a backsplash.

Thank you Jessica and Anne! I really love the look of AWAKE!! Just now in the throws of deciding. I have looked at Stile porcelain slab called Marbella, like Awake, and LOVE it but CANNOT get a sample. How can I manage working a kitchen build without a sample?! So, not feeling that one as practical. I have looked at Magnifica Antique which is a similar porcelain but not as beautiful IMO. Porcelain is being sold more and more often for kitchen counters. The quartz that try to look like these, just don’t come close. Every counter top has some issue!! And everything I have read says Delton is less likely to chip, not more, due to hardness. Anne, please let me know what you decide and if possible what cabinets you are thinking of using. You are a few months ahead of me.

Julie, you're clearly trying to talk yourself into this.

Every countertop does have issues, but you have to take the next step by looking at the repairability of the chipping. Sure, Corian can chip, but I can make those chips permanently disappear most times.

If you've got your heart set on sintered, look at the through-body types like Lapitec please. When the picture isn't just printed on the top, you don't have to miter the edge which creates the chipping problem. Through-body can have a more rounded edge profile, lowering the risk of chipping and making chip repairs possible by reprofiling.

Hi Joseph, I have also read, on a thread that you are on, that Lapitec is a "nightmare to clean". That is its "issue". I respect your experience and concerns.

It can't be any more difficult to clean than any other stone, estone, or sintered surface. Their matte finish is very nice.
