I have had them. I still have a huge box of them in my allotment shed while not using any of them. I found them fiddly, unreliable construction, a pain to set up and tricky to irrigate...in fact, I would say almost impossible without continual drip irrigation. Expensive too - mine came from a cannabis grower I know, who was a keen early adopter of new plant tech...which speaks volumes since he didn't want to keep using them either. Turns out that they do have a use though - mainly in the professional tree nursery trade where the pots have been successfully used with containerised woodies, on a highly regulated irrigation cycle.

I also thought they were ugly beyond belief. If the functionality had been good, I was willing to overlook form/aesthetics,but since that wasn't the case, I binned them off sharpish.

around here I only have seen them in use by nurseries.

THe air pruning thing with the roots works, they do not get root bound. Apart from that I would not keep them for permanent plants , just because of their looks

and in the nursery I visited they had hooked up the plants to some irrigation, so the water supply was not a problem

Exactly so, linaria. The pots are easily dismantled so there is none of that uprturning pots, loosening soil etc. The sides are fastened by a plastic grommet which allows the walls to detach from the bottom. And yep, no root girdling or blocking of drainage holes. And with a drip system, the soil is held at an optimal level of moisture. But these advantages do not really translate to garden use. Ignoring their looks (although I, couldn't) the design flexibility comes at a cost of robust functionality - they are not suitable to the hurly-burly of a garden like mine, where plants are moved about weekly, hidden or displayed according to bloom cycle - grommets popping off, bottoms, falling out...so no, mine have been dismantled and boxed in the allotment shed for years, as they were also smaller ones which really didn't justify their use.

(If I ever did use one, I would have it in the garden surrounded by other plants rather than out on a deck or patio for all to see)
