Mine is more in the 5ft range. It had an issue with a TON of mildew last year. With all the rain a lot of roses rusted but mine got mildew. But long story short it wasn’t Chantilly creams problem; our contractor when he fixed some of the water damage, must have knocked the emitter loose from the quarter inch and it was getting absolutely drenched and I didn’t notice until I found it in a swimming pool of a pot. It’s still regrowing a lot of roots I imagine but before it had thrown some long 4ft basal breaks with equally long 2-3ft laterals that pushed it more than 5ft on occasion.

But I loved the blooms—very fragrant and a beautiful yellow.

I think Chantilly Cream will be both big and fat! My zoomed to 5 ft in no time, Tom Carruth said his plants are especially huge and vigorous at The Huntington, too. The growth is definitely more Memorial Day than Mellow Yellow. I think CC is a wonderful new introduction, very productive, fragrant, long lasting, consistently big blooms, strong yellow fading to cream at the edges.

Ohh, Chantilly Cream was one that I took pictures of at High Country Roses to put on my high interest list. If it gets tall in zone 5 (5-6') I would really be interested in it.

BenT, Your video is fantastic! It really shows off Chantilly Cream. Looking at this makes me want it more. I'm torn between it and White Licorice. I want to get whichever one gets taller in zone 5. Do you also have White Licorice?

Mmm, I’ve not personally grown White Licorice, but seen it in others’ gardens. Chantilly Cream is definitely larger in every dimension.

Susan since we’re sorta on the topic, how did Nicole Carol Miller do for you last year and how big did she end up getting? She’s at Otto’s and I’ll be tempted I’m sure.

@Ryan Coastal LA Zone 10b, I'm a little embarrassed to say that Nicole Carol Miller is still in the 5 gallon pot I put her in last spring. But she's going to her permanent home very soon. It's hard to find a lot of specifics on size, but everything I've looked at says "up to 6 feet". In the year that I've had her, she's doing fine, and hasn't shown any indication of monster tendencies, but you know how that goes once they get some leg room. I really wanted to put her next to the sidewalk, so people could smell the blooms, but at 6 feet, that's not going to work. Ben sent me a pic of a bed of Nicoles from a local public garden in Sacto several months ago, and she looked vigorous, but maybe not quite 6 feet? Here's a pic I took of her bloom ~a week ago:

Nicole Carole Miller seems an average height HT, maybe 4-5 ft.

Looks beautiful Susan and Ben. Looks similar to Secret but more lavender, which isn’t bad at all. Six foot is large ish but I’ve got worse right now—some of my so called 4ft shrubs that are 4ft after their first flush. Chantilly Cream may be in the same size category then!

My sidewalk is partly taken over by the roses too. Louise blooms so much she’s essentially littering the street with petals and I have to trim things to make sure a lateral doesn’t snag anybody. I’m sure your passer-bys wouldn’t mind Nicole but Nicole might mind them!

Ryan, that combo is gorgeous! Is it Ebb Tide and Agusta Louise? (I can never remember the spelling on AL). Here's a shot of a section of the sidewalk part of my front corral from last year... I don't have as many in bloom yet this year. You can see Apricot Nectar already reaching out to grab passersby :-D

Beautiful walkway Susan. Your neighbors are lucky, even if they get a bit of Apricot nectar saying hello if they’re looking down at their phones instead of beautiful roses. Is that Sunsprite in the foreground?

It’s Louise Clements and Twilight Zone. I’m fond of orange-purple-lavender so Louise-Twilight Zone-Lagerfeld like this, or Sister Emmanuelle-Munstead-Just Joey are some of my favorite combos. But a lot it is unplanned and just where pots ended up!

Susan - I didn't realize that NCM gets so tall. Mine never gets more than 2 1/2-3 feet. :) :)

Ryan, boy, did I ever get that one wrong! The blooms look a lot like the pics I've seen of AL, and I had forgotten that Louise Clements gets kinda peachy at times. I grew LC quite a long time ago, and sometimes think about getting it again... yours is gorgeous. I'm totally with you on your orange-purple-lavender combos, although my "must do" combos are a yellow-orange-purple... any shade of those together. Yes, it's Sunsprite in the foreground :-D

Ryan, another great pic of your Louise Clements! Me too on Augusta L, since we see so many pics of it here, but I've never seen it in person either. I have three established Sunsprites, and they do great. It seems a little harder to get nowadays, so I bought another at HD in January, and it's pretty pathetic. I cut it back to nubbins a few weeks ago. One more comment, since you're a big fan of oranges. I have an ultra-rare orange that is my favorite orange rose of all: Flora Danica. I've been sharing it with my trading partners for a few years, and just in case you'd like one, I have a rooted cutting of it. Here's my email: xxx

Gorgeous pictures of Louise and friends! I've never found Louise as anything but own root and she's a little reluctant to survive our winters own root, or at least she was before we moved to zone 6a. Your pictures make me want to try her again. Is Heirloom still selling Clements roses?

Speaking of own root mmmm, I haven't found White Licorice to be all that hardy on own roots and I tried several times. I also haven't tried Chantilly Cream but since she's available grafted that would be more likely to survive my zone 5 winters. FWIW...

Cynthia my Louise C came from Heirloom. You can search their Web site or there’s a specific category for the Clements roses under “Heirloom’s own” I believe.

Cynthia - yeah, my White Licorice died on me twice over winter in the garage. But I keep getting it, because I love it SO much! This past winter I had it in the garage right up next to the house...and it survived. :) :)
