Design Dilemma Basements

Ideas for open basement space

Hi everyone,

We're building a house currently and we're looking for ideas on what to do with the basement space. Attached are some pictures. The smaller room with window will be an office. The question we have is what do we do with the remaining space.

We thought it would be a good idea to have a home gym there. Any other ideas would be most welcome! We live in a warm Mediterranean climate and total area is around 1000 sq ft .

We have always had our media room in the basement the TV is great when there are no winddows to deal with . The TV can be placed so that if you have a gym you can watch TV while on the treadmill. Use good lighting that can be controlled for TV watching .This was our media room with no windows in our last house . It was funny no one ever realized there were no windows

Does the area open up to an exterior courtyard? I would see installing a secondary kitchen down there with the bar backing against the office area, a living space on one side and an open air gym on the other. Possibly a sink, a refrigerator under the counter, an ice maker, an oven. And ten outside on a patio a grille? Just a thought. Lots of possibilities!
