You might want to check for snails./slugs. I don't think squash bugs pay any attention to blossoms. But it could be lots of other things. If you want some advice, you're going to have to get more specific about the problem.

If you can post a picture of the suspected pest that would narrow it down.

Might it be June bugs?

They look like this and are active at night, they hide and are very slow and sluggish during the day. I've found them burrowed into squash and other flowers.

It was last year and didn’t take pic, they were about the size of lady bug but yellow with spots

I have to guess a spotted cucumber beetle. It'll eat cucumber, squash, pumpkin, melon - the roots, leaves, flowers and fruits. Yellow with large black spots. About 1/4 inch long. Endemic in continental U.S., but more prevalent in the south. Look it up.
