Ceiling lights are not optimal for bedrooms. Different items brighten up a room. Notice when and what kind of natural light comes into the room. Start with a tabe lamp in each corner at chest height. Please educate yourself about color. Color has been a hobby for me for the past 20 years. you have mainly neutral colors now. The concern I have is that you have a gray wall which is a cool color, and all the other colors are warm (except for the taupe throw at the end of the bed). The ceiling light makes the neutral colors more dull. I would put the ceiling lights on dimmers. I wouldn't bring any more colors in here. One trick I found in this situation is to take a black and white photo. That way you can see the contrast. There seems to be very little contrast. Also, the throw at the end of the bed seems to be more taupe rather than brown. You may think about sticking strickly to the colors of off white and brown. Taupe is considered a cool color. Sometimes too many neutrals look like a muddy mess. I bring in color through mirrors, windows, lighting. I bring in color in wall art, lamp shades, throws, etc. Dark lamp bases and shades look good, but may not be good in distributing light. I would do a lot of moving around of items in this space so there is more contrast.

We might suggest going with a light colored lamp with beige lamp shades. The height of the ones in the photonseems correct, but they seem too big around. You could also look at doing sconces instead of lamps. Here are two ideas below from recent designs we have completed.

Thanks. I’ll try a different throw on the bed, adjust the pillows and use a more neutral/beige lamp. These lamps have been suggested as a way to add some contrast and color. Thoughts?

Love the lamps shown in the original photo. Perfect color and height, it seems. One suggestion: the handles on the bedside tables might be nice rubbed with a little antique gold "Rub and Buff" to repeat the gold on the lamps.
