What are you going to prune? The tree in your picture does not need trimming.

I'd prb'ly snip back one of those leaders and the long side one too.

It is the multiple leaders I’m referring to. I try to avoid pruning since I’m not very good at it, but I also want to avoid dueling leaders as the tree gets larger. Is there a compelling reason not to remove one of the two leaders?

There no reason not to -- the tree's big enough now that the percent removal would be minimal.

It looks like that double leader goes back at least 2 years. Cut one out now - better late than never. I would also snip back that long side one.

Ben, I don't know about dirty, but definitely dirt cheap. Picea omorika 'AC/DC'. Actually, it's 'Aurea', but as it has gotten older, there is no longer seasonal gold. Bizarre. It still shows the affect of deer browse when first planted, but is slowly filling in. I wax poet about patience, but I'm losing it with this one.

maackia, did you take your last pic in spring, or last fall? Asking because of the rather stunning yellow trees (maples?) in the background.

Ben, it was taken last Thursday about an hour before dusk. You are seeing Northen Pin Oak, which are quite nice this time of year with their catkins and emerging foliage creating a golden dream scape.

Some white oaks in this area leaf out a ghostly white. Not stunning, but unusual-looking.
