red oak (Quercus rubra) or pin oak (Q. palustris)?

A year or two ago I received this from a county tree give away. I was told it was red oak (Quercus rubra) but it looks a lot like my pin oak (Q. palustris). The reason I care is that I don't need it and I'm about to give it away to somebody whose soil is dry as opposed to the moist soil in my yard and it won't do well there if it is a pin oak. What do you all think?

Thanks.
