In "front" (really side) of house, choose one type of shrub and plant along house but not in mid-area (azalea or Indian Hawthorne shrubs). In certer area you want a show stopper, I'd choose a shaped Japanese style. I don’t mind garden work but ideally a lower maintenance yard - although not opposed to more work!

No privacy necessary - as this is a front shot of my home so we do not sit out here (although down the road would love to incorporate a seating area or some type of deck)

I like a zen style garden, I like something that is suitable to the style and colour of the home

And trees like a Japanese maple etc I do love !
