My choice would be functional. A rug that helped wipe off dust from shoes and a cabinet for shoes or at leasst a boot tray for shoes. A brown rug would blend with the floor. OTOH you could outfit an area in the garage for shoes & mat etc. before entering the house....

IMO a wshable one is a must in that situation unless where you live no one ever gets wet or muddy shoes. As for the rest I have no idea without pics of the kitchen at least POsted here in a comment DO NOT start another post. I love Chilewich mats they are easy to clean with a hose come in some fun colors I have them in my dog run entry and outside my front door .

Most of the rugs you can get at big box stores are made of synthetic fibers and pretty indestructible and easily cleanable, as long as you don't get a fluffy nap or light colors.

I suspect you can probably go bigger than 3 by 5 but without a picture of the space it's just a guess.

Many rug sites have an "insert a rug in my picture" where you can try out styles without going to the store.

Can you post a photo that shows the view from the door into the house? It would be easier to narrow down choices if we could see how the rest of the house is decorated.

We just moved in and don’t really have a color scheme other than agreeable grey walls and white woodwork. Planning on neutrals for our home.

I would stay pretty neutral, not a colorful focal point or anything. Maybe a tweed or small geometric pattern in brown, cream/ white, or gray/ brown/white. Or a pattern that’s very tone- on- tone. Should be medium- dark to hide dirt between cleanings, and either blend in with floor or with the walls.
You say” not washable”, but what would be your cleaning method? Of course you can take small wool rugs to a professional rug place.

Be sure to to check measurements- can’t tell size of space from your photos— including how on “ approaches” the rug from different directions, regarding pathways/ trip hazards.

The vinyl "rugs" from Spicher have interesting neutral patterns but might be too much pattern for your taste.

With your neutral color scheme and countertops, I would go with a rug that is fairly simple, but has some notable contrast - to give the entry some presence, some depth. Colors such as black, or a very dark grey.

This one is indoor/outdoor. So it’s easy spot cleaning - plus, you can hose it off.

In my size! 3’6 is too wide. Door is 36” wide. Thinking a 3x 5 size.

Would you consider a long runner instead and adding two pendants as well will create a much nicer feel.

A practical alternative are vinyl runners.
