Outdoor Fireplace Grout Question

I built and outdoor fireplace and plan to use Eldorado Tundrabrick in Chalk Dust color like the attached photo. Can anyone tell me what grout or mortar color I would need to use to achieve this look? My contractor mixed white but it came out very yellow/putty looking. Feeling confused and scared to make a mistake.
