What exactly is uncomfortable about your current rug? I think the style looks nice with your things.

Here's my online rug buying hint - if you see one you like, order the smallest available. You'll be able to see the color, feel the texture, and not have the hassle of returning a giant rug. Free delivery and returns are great but re-wrapping a 10 by 14 rug and dragging it to UPS is not fun.

I think your price point is unrealistic. deegw is right, what you have looks fine. So keep saving your money if you want something else. You could go to a carpet store and look at their remnants. If you find one you like they can cut it to the exact size you want and bind the edges so you have a custom area rug. It may be possible to find something like that within your current budget. Remnant selection is hit or miss, you don't know what you'll find.

I agree about the price point. It's unlikely you'll find a rug of that size with a posh texture for under $1,000. Most will be indoor/outdoor plasticy, bathroom rug adjacent or printed on a rubber backing.

You might luck into one that's being discontinued. I would order a few small (returnable) versions of the ones you like that are above your price range to see if they meet your needs. Then periodically check the sites to watch the prices.

Yep the minute you go past 8x10 prices on rugs rise rapidly. Too bad we can't see from your photo whether your room could accommodate a smaller rug. A room typically has to be really large to NEED a 10 x 14 rug.

if you still like the rug, get a better pad... from a local carpet center.

We have this rug and love it. It's about 5 years old now but has been through the ringer. A shag rug is not great for toddler phase - it's amazing what fell out of it when we moved. And then we got a puppy so this rug has had its fair share of yuck on it. Once we are out of the puppy phase we will be replacing with the same rug.

You have to like the shag aspect though (which we do). Definitely is an inexpensive rug but doesn't feel or look like it. We get compliments all the time. We actually bought it because a friend of ours had it in her living room and I loved it.

I think a darker rug would look good with your furniture. Maybe the gray with ivory. Note that it is a warm gray. Otherwise if you don't like this style, look at other rugs by safavieh.

What are you trying to change it to?

Rug pricing is based on the square feet, no matter the material. Wool, poly, matters not.

So....while an 8 x 10 at 80 sq feet may be reasonably priced? A 10 x 14 is 140 sq feet, almost double, and prices will reflect that: )

Rugs in living spaces are chosen for color, pattern, grounding the space and seating ( size )

and less for "comfort". A term usually reserved more for a bedroom.

Nobody is sure what you are looking for, beyond a price point under 1K....and even THAT isn't clear.....

"i need a large size - 10x14. i cant seem ro find one i like that isnt under $1000.

    "Isn't".....................

Does this mean you want more quality and a higher price point? You need to get away from this sort of Google....." 10 x 14 rugs"

That's going to get you every cheap rag on planet earth.

Try Horchow. Try going to Surya. To "Rugs direct. To Dash and Albert, even Pottery Barn...wool especially.

Or head to a quality broadloom store near you. Look at Antrim, Stark, Fabrica, Geoffrey Hirst - where you can have a rug ordered, bound, to the inch. Those will set you back 2,500- 4,000 or more. Textures and pattern and colors abound.

We've no clue what you are after: )

You might consider looking for a rug you really love and one that can last years. Perhaps try going in person to stores to feel the rugs so that you end up liking the rug and not having to get another one. Notice, in these designs below, the rugs used and how they work in the space.
