Life changes - the pictures say it all

What's going on:

'Lamarque' at its finest, and aquilegia 'Yellow Queen'

'Pierre de Ronsard' and heuchera 'Old La Rochette'

'Belgian Lace' leucanthemum

We are leaving the Bay Area of California for parts a bit east and a just bit north, that is, Colorado. We have family there.

None of my Tea roses would be happy in that climate, which is the reason for my recent renewed interest in cold hardy roses. New things to learn.

I am excited about this adventure.

Anywhere near Golden? There used to be a garden of old roses down the hill from the Sheriff's office. The late John Starnes wrote a pamphlet on old roses in a cemetery in eastern Denver. And if you happen to be moving to Salida, the town has unmetered water: use as much as you want, it goes back into the ground and down the Arkansas River.

    Good luck.

High Country Roses is in the Denver area. I am going to guess that the cemetery that John Starnes wrote about in Eastern Denver is the Fairmount Cemetery, which is a pretty neat cemetery with quite a few old garden and found roses. (or at least as of 2017, the last time i visited.)

Thank you for sharing Rosefolly and safe travels! Its sad to hear of another Californian leaving… I said goodbye to another collegue just the other day! However, I’m sure that the adventure of growing in a new locale and spending more quality time with family will be a wonderful blessing! Good luck with your new chapter in CO!!!

@Brandon Garner I’ll be traveling to the CO area next month and curious if there are any other rose-related places you might recommend by DM?

Good luck, Rosefolly, with the adjustment. I really enjoyed the Denver Botanical Garden when I was there.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and the encouragement. Definitely High Country Roses is on my radar, also Harlequin Gardens nursery near Boulder. I ran across a webpage describing John Starnes's Fairmount Cemetery garden (not his, but he wrote about it), so that is on my list as well. Cheryl Netter's name is very familiar to me. Was she on Gardenweb at one point? I will look for her archived webpage.

I don't think Cheryl made it to Gardenweb. We knew her from rec.gardens.roses.

I have resisted going down the rabbit hole of that webpage. The Wayback Machine doesn't always preserve linked material, but everything I've tried so far works. So John Starnes Geocities website is there, including the Fairmount Cemetery material.

Thanks, but unfortunately when I searched the Wayback Machine for Cheryl Netter, I did not get any result. And I didn't spent much time on rec.garden.roses. I was active on Gardenweb right from the beginning, starting around 1993 or 1994 as best I can remember. Wow, 30 years of Gardenweb! I am not as frequent a poster as I once was, but I do still read and stop by at least once a week. I do know her name though. Possibly it is just because of acquaintances in common.

Oh, it just occured to me that my first post may not be showing up as a link for everyone. It is a link to the Netter Page.

Good luck! I love it here, there's incredible beauty to be found here. And I have lots of happy roses, so I'm sure you'll find plenty of cold weather beauties of your own!
