Either leave as is because it coordinates with the rug, or paint it the same white as the ceiling.

I would paint both walls the color of the ceiling. Just make the entry its own thing. Maybe add bigger wood trim around the windows above the doors and then paint it out?

For me, the wood paneling is not appealing. The color of it doesn't seem to go with the flooring very well and the the seam with the board covering it causes you to have to hang the art at an odd height. If removing it is more than you want to undertake, paint it the same color as the wall with the front door. That's if you love Zen - if not, repaint the whole room. The entry is so open I don't think painting it a different color is a good idea.

IMO you should be looking at MCM style chandeliers for this area. That current glass chandelier casts terrible shadows in this area.

I would remove the paneling before painting. If that's too much to get into, then just prime and paint over it. I agree with @Paul F. to paint both walls in the entry the same color as the ceiling. The lighting could be improved by changing the light fixture to one that has long-ish pendants of frosted glass -- something like this (although I would prefer simple straight attachments rather than chains)

The frosted glass should eliminate shadows and cast just a uniform light. Put it on a dimmer switch so you can have whatever level of brightness you want at any point. I have 4 frosted glass single pendants hung from the center of a large room and they light the walls brightly and evenly with no shadows.
