I'd paint it white as it is and all of it.

You have nothing in there to even suggest otherwise. Is it a living room, or a rumpus room?

You are ahead of yourself. You need a measure of the space, walls, windows , feet and inches. You need a seating/rug/storage plan. While board games, dining and seating can certainly be attractively accommodated? I'd be looking for another spot for Foozball : ( as it reads like a basement teen hangout at the moment, and probably will as long as it remains, no matter the table style or improvement in that.

Jan's right, the current color looks really good with the floors and it will go with anything. Did you have a different particular color in mind? If you don't want white, you need to have settled on a rug and sofa first. Choose the paint color last.

What a lovely room! I think that breaking it up by painting (anywhere) in that entire space would be detrimental to its lovely airy feel. Since you want color, just add in bedrooms, and non connecting spaces.

There is so much you could do to add personality: faux beams, large rug and art, cushions - but decide on a color combo first.

You mentioned maybe getting a new couch. Don’t buy if it’s working for your needs; just use as your jumping off point.

The very first thing I’d do is consider the rooms functionality, needs, seating, storage, color scheme and definately do some floor plans. Before buying any futniture, decide on an overall look. Having a plan makes it much easier. Enjoy your new home.

Wait until you get all the new things at least chosen before any paint color is decided . Is this the only space for entertaining? I am confused as to a foosball table in my LR. I need info and you need to stop and have aplan.

No reason to paint anything. The current color of the walls is great. Now you need some art for the walls.

Dimensions on this room would help provide you with a more accurate layout, but here's what I came up with without the benefit of dimensions. I'm assuming there will be a TV, so I have divided the room into living on one side and dining on the other side.

You have a long wall that could accommodate a TV and bookshelves if needed. Beneath the TV you can have a media cabinet or a linear fireplace. This area will be anchored by an area rug along with a sofa and two lounge chairs.

You could use a less kitchen-like table and one that would be more appropriate for a dining room. See below. There's room for a buffet on the wall in the corner with art above.

Sorry this illustration is so wonky, but it's the best I could do with your photo. Once you get furnishings, an area rug, art on the walls, you won't be looking for paint.

Thanks to all your comments they are so helpful! I think we will reconcider the idea of a wall color. We thought that highlighting the beautiful 11cm skirting boards would be nice. The color would be a decent beige or a very decent grey. But if that would have a negative effect on the airy feeling we would not do it because that is what we really love.

Indeed, this is the room we do entertainment too. We have two nurseries, a bath and a bed room/working place in our bugalow. The dimensions are (less than mentioned above since I considered the space in the hallway too, sorry):

The roof slope starts at 2.85 and the max hight in the middle is 4.40.

If we would stick to the sofa and do not paint the wall behind it, I guess we will have to think of a nice carpet.

Since we watch almost no TV I do not want to give it such a big space. This is really a problem why we where thinking about a projector and screen solution.

I generated a diagram and tried to display our idea.

If I would try to come up with a plan I would do it that way:

1. Get a Sofa (or stay with what we have)

2. Carpet and Hi-Fi Rack (the Rack for the Boardgames will be white so I can buy it)

3. Kitchen Table and Carpet

4. Chair

The foosball table is arguable I know! It does not fit in any other room and I play professionally and my kids (4/7) and their friends are at it at least 45 minutes a day. I have to think about it. But our livestyle is actually, that we live like 80% of the time when we are together, in this room. We play a lot of boardgames, foosball and make music. I have to find a trade-off between an adult living room and all our hobbies.
