How do make my home office visually appealing

last year
last modified: last year

Right now the toom is just functional but lacks character.

I’m hoping to make smaller purchases, like paintings etc. the desk and the chair remain. Also, the treadmill stays in the room. :(

I have attached pictures of the living room to give the general vibe of the house.

Thanks for your input and help!

Is this just a home office or do you work from home? I would start with a bigger desk and not shoved into a corner . A to scale plan is helpful and more info for sure. The LR is large and a bit cold looking is thta the vibe you like ? I need more info to even begin to guess . Yes some art for sure maybe try one of those oddly hung ones in the LR to get a feel for size.

I agree with Patricia about the desk being too small. How big is that nook at the edge of the open door? Could your chair go there with a bigger desk in front to that you're looking at the window wall?

Add this wallpaper to the main wall that your desk is on. Including the bump out corner.

    Wallpaper Suggestion

I would get a larger more stately desk and flip it around to face the door.

    Desk Suggestion

I would add a very large horizontal piece of art on that main wall over the wallpaper.

This should get you going in a good direction!

Hard to tell without room dimensions. But, I'd probably try to turn the treadmill so you can easily see out the window. Then, get a bigger desk and place it so it is facing the door.

You like a monochromatic look with texture. It's harder to pull off in your office because your textural living room elements (stone, thick rug) won't apply here.

Add drapes with a very nubby texture. A strongly textured wall hanging instead of wall art. Maybe an accent wall in grass cloth. Roughly woven baskets as plant pots instead of ceramic.

Are you open to rearranging the space? We might suggest placing the treadmill where the desk currently is. So that the treadmill is flat against the big wall the desk is facing. Then place the desk in the middle of the room, or on the wall that the treadmill is currently on. You can look at adding artwork, Roman shades, a chandelier, more chairs to face the desk, etc.

You can put the treadmill against the wall opposite and partially remove the visual noise. The room feels really empty, like something is missing. If it were my office I would add some wall shelves and some vases to dilute the color scheme. I would also add a small armchair and a floor lamp in the corner where the treadmill is now, for reading or just relaxing. I also love everything that glows, so I would add some glowing figures on the walls and colored lights on the ceiling).
