30 inch width will look more streamlined. What exactly can you fit in a 9 inch cabinet, after you allow for framing?

Hello, Spices and canned goods... I am likely wrong , which is why I am asking for opinions here lol I was just thinking without the 9 inch end cabinet the microwave seems to be just "floating" like it needs something to " close " it in?? A more finished look?? Also there will be no framed wall at the end .. it will end with a cabinet either the 30 inch microwave cabinet or the 9 inch

We have a 9" wide lower cabinet next our oven; it has cookie sheets in half and cutting boards and foils et al. in half. The upper cabinet above it is 12" wide and has kitchen towels, some cereal bowls (the cereal is in the cabinet to the left), medications, and the hand mixer.

For a 9" upper cabinet, you might consider having a roll-out inside if it's going to be holding things that you expect to access frequently. I don't care if I need to stand on a chair to get to some of the stuff in the back of our upper ... but if you're thinking of putting spices and such in there, you want to be able to reach them all easily.

(We have a quirky kitchen with too many doors and windows, so the cabinets were designed to make use of every space possible ... and there's additional kitchen storage for more pans and appliances all over the house.)

(Those are the oven mitts tossed in on top of the cookie sheets and cooling racks)

I do not like built in MWs so why not just use the counter below and stick with a alrger cabinet that IMO is more useful than wasted cabinet for a MW

Hi, it is not a built in microwave. It may look that way in the designer rendering , but it is a cabinet with a shelf under that comes out a bit deeper to place a counter top microwave on it. I do not have enough counter space to place on counter. thanks for your help

After bruising my knuckles way too many times on a skinny cabinet I had in one of my houses, I vowed to never have anything skinnier than a 12” cabinet, and 18” and larger was preferable. Several homes later and I have never regretted that decision.

... so B, just because I won’t have anything skinnier than a 12” cabinet so I can spare my knuckles.

C - do what cvdpnw posted above with a 15" deep shelf and cabinet above.

The 24" wide cabinet only has a 21" wide opening which will limit your selections alot. If you go to the 27" microcabinet ( most companies offer them ), then the opening is 24 ( although if you look at some of the decent microwaves they actually measure 24 1/4 or even a little more!

I always recommend the 30" or do something like what was posted above .

I like the larger MW on an open shelf. Cookbooks next to it sounds practical, too. Or just open space.

B. You’ll like not having the microwave crammed into the corner. And it might look messy, but I would use the extra space as a convenient spot for the splatter cover.

If you do the full width you could do 2 cabinets. The lower being deeper and recessed into the wall. I would also drop it down a few inches (3) to make it more accessible, but still leaving plenty of height above the counter.
